Re: Team Round 18

Probably important to name an unchanged line up from a 'body language' point of view. If we'd rung the changes it would have suggested that the loss last week had upset the apple cart. An unchanged line up tends to indicate that things are going to plan.

Disappointed that Bock's not in though. At least he'll get a game in the SANFL.

Adelaide has shown faith in the players involved in Saturday's trip to Perth and will be unchanged for Collingwood on Saturday night.

Defender Graham Johncock appears to have recovered from a corked thigh. He trained for most of Wednesday's main session.

Jason Torney, who dropped out of the side last week because of a neck injury, was named as an emergency with Nathan Bock and Hayden Skipworth.

We made changes after we smashed Essendon by 140 points how come that wouldn’t upset the applecart?

Player getting dropped should not matter; surly you have to have your best side in.

Yeh I assumed he was going to be included too however while listening to Benny Rutten’s interview it became apparent he wasn’t going to be in.

Errr... the 220 point differential perhaps?

You’re still sending a negative message to the player, since the club won by 140 point he still isn’t good enough to keep his spot?

What would be worse, getting dropped after a 140 pint victory or an 80 point loss? Either way the objective is to select the best side to win the next game.

I'm not talking about the message to the player. I'm talking about the message it sends to the rest of the competition. After last Saturday the spotlight is on us. We are under the microscope. Are we the premiership favourites or pretenders?

This week is going to be very telling. How will the players react? How will the coaching staff and selectors react?

The unchanged line up is a bold, positive move. We had to give the impression that there isn't an ounce of self-doubt creeping in.

Re: No changes for Crows

I'm disappointed. Welsh has to come in now. He has played 3 games and has kicked high scores in a losing team. If he doesn't come in next week, I don't like his chances. I hope last weeks thrashing is not swept ubder the carpet. Welsh in the starting 6 of any forward line. The medium sized, strong marking, skillfull forward (like Robertson) are rare and very handy. I'm Disappointed...

If Bock had played in SANFL last week (as he shoul have) he may have been a chance. These guys need games soon, before its too late

Re: Team Round 18

I must say that I have been somewhat disappointed by our selections over the past two weeks

last weeks selection was somewhat arrogant in my opinion if that makes any sense. The dropping of Bock after a very reasonable performance when he is considered a first 18 player and bringing in Van Berlo without putting him through the SANFL was a very bold move IMO.

Secondly the fact that it is an unchanged lineup also has raised a few eyebrows. Shouldnt Roo be spending sometime in the midfield ? Shouldnt we start tinkering a bit with our side ie bringing in Welsh and or Bock to get our strongest side ready come finals time?

As I have maintained all this year, I have complete faith in Craig and think that he knows what he is doing. To me I havent been happy with selection over the past fortnight, but who am I to argue with the great man.

Re: Team Round 18

Initially, I was surprised there were no changes but, when I thought about it a bit more, I shouldn't have been.

It sends a clear message, doesn't it?

"We have faith in our group to respond to last week's effort".

Craig seems very big on placing a lot of responsibility with the playing group.

Strong statement there,

lets hope it's the right one.
After their great form all players deserve one bad game...and the West Coast was it. This was written Thursday night but I will be surprised if we don't thrash the Pies.

I agree. Does this mean, McLeod aside, and assuming no further injuries, that this will be the 22 we go into finals with?

Wo do you consider will be a chance to come in?

Re: Team Round 18

I heard Paul Hamilton quizzed about this on radio last Sunday. He said they don't have a "Best 22" in mind as such, but he did say there was probably a "Best 24". He didn't name names ... but I'd reckon Welsh, Perrie, Bock, McLeod and Hudson would be in that 24.

Very important factor this one we all said the Eagles loss will become more clearer after the Pies game well it is just starting to become a bit more clearer now

Its a bit like kids "ill let it go this time but dont let it happen again"

Re: Team Round 18

I agree that it's probably not such a bad thing from a team morale standpoint. It means the blame for the last week's debacle is shared equally.

Dropping 3 or 4 players might leave some of the remaining 18 or 19 believing their contribution was satisfactory.

This only makes sense of course if there's no player crying out to be dropped because of sustained poor form. And sure enough, no player is yet in that category.

Well, the team is pretty much set. However my ideal changes would be:

In: Welsh, Bock, Hudson
Out: Shirley, Stevens, Clarke

For this week?

How many underdone players do you want to play at once?

Re: No changes for Crows

A great move by the coaching panel. :thumbsu:

By selecting the same team that got thrashed in the West, they have said that they believe that form to be a one off aberration, and put it fairly and squarely on the players shoulders to prove that belief to be right.

The challenge is now with the players to show their coaching staff that they are correct with that thought process.

I believe they will.

Nah mate. I don't mean for this week. I'm saying once those changes are made over the coming few weeks, that would be my ideal side.
