I think he should be brought in against Melbourne, but not because of it being viewed as an easy win. If the pace of AFL is faster/tougher than the SANFL then Tex isn't going to be any better prepared for it with another game in the 2nds, plus his fitness should be fine, it's not like he has only started running this week.

Having pulled up well from the SANFL game I would suggest that it is more likely that he will pull up sore after his first AFL game (be it Melbourne or Pies) so it would be better to play him before the bye, to give him more recovery time. No point bringing him in against the Pies only for him to miss the week after with soreness, doesn't help him or the team.

He could have got closer to the man on the mark but why bother when you can just go boom from 60 metres out in your first game back from a knee recon..
They've done a great job with his rehab, his leg looks fine in terms of muscle rebuilt too, identical to the other leg from any pictures I've seen..

I've seen footage of a goal he kicked by getting it quickly on the boot near the behind line but haven't seen it online yet..
That was good to see in a different way, had to be confident and quick on his feet and with the action, had pressure coming at him and was taken to ground..

Also seen the Glenelg knob that gave him a shove in the back as Tex took a mark running at the boundary line which sent him flying at the bench..
Tex, as you would expect, turned around and gave him a bit of a forearm to the body for it
..

I am surprised with out injury luck he didn't fracture is forearm in the process.

We need a poll and name change of thread. Will Tex play this week v Demons? For the record I think he will play most likely starting sub or getting subbed off. I think he and Pods will share the sub duties.

And if we cop an injury in the first 10 mins? Its a slippery slope taking an underdone player in assuming you can sub them out. You cant carry a player if they're not capable of running out an entire game, especially with the interchange cap already limiting rotations.

IMO, Tex will play in the SANFL next week, in accordance with the original plan. What is another week in 1 year?

Is it worth risking him on a sub-standard oval though? It's a hard decision whether he plays AFL or not.

I think the sub role could suit Tex very well this week.

Do you know it is sub-standard?

If so, we should forfeit next weeks game against Port as not worth risking any player!

Have you ever played competitive sport? There is no such thing as going into a game half-assed. He'd actually be more likely to re-injure himself going in at half pace than if he went full speed.

You can't expect Tex to play against Melbourne and just take it easy. If he's playing AFL, he's going full pace. As much as you like to paint Melbourne as a "soft team", the fact is they'd give any SANFL team a 100 point drubbing. Tex has just spent a full year getting to this stage. Why on earth would we rush him back early just so he can "get used to the speed of the game" a week earlier? If I were Tex and found out the club were trying to push me back a week earlier because they were worried about the Pies game, I'd be furious. It would be negligence at the highest level.

Give him as many SANFL games as he needs. It's not like we're any kind of legitimate flag threat this year anyway. What we need is Tex's recovery to be completed properly, not to hotshot his return so he can get a couple of underdone possessions against a fellow cellar-dweller.

So did you see the twitter feed from the AFC, they are discussing the possibility of him coming back in this week. Which basically emphasizes that the discussion should take place which is what I have been saying all along.

The twitter post validates my argument that at the very least there should be a discussion. Do you understand the game, or are you going to continue giving cheap shots? Yes I have and do play competitive sports which I guarantee is more challenging than what you partake in if you count TKD.

Sando's comments suggest they will at least look at it

I think the lure of maximising this weeks crowd with a "Welcome back Tex" party will be a factor. We all know the Collingwood game will have a big crowd but an extra few thousand this week v Melbourne = $$$. He is ready to go. Surely they held him back from SANFL action "just in case" for several weeks when he was raring to go.

Bring him in.........

If Tex plays, Im sure Frawley will go to him, which will free up Pods and JJ for 2nd and 3rd best defenders on them.
Frawley is playing forward at the moment..
Doesn't mean they won't switch him back, but Roos seems set on the idea they need him forward..

Not necessarily, up to now McDonald has been assigned all the #1 defensive jobs and Frawley has also been spending time forward as they have FA KPF at the moment apart from Dawes

If you have a forward line of Tex,Pods, JJ and Lynch they are going to need some quality defenders back there because the ball is going to be coming in there a lot.
