Don't know if she would be my target if I was GC. Good player, honest trier, but I don't think GC with Mithin is dramatically better.

Agreed, especially if they're willing to let pick 2 be part of a deal (obviously we'd be throwing them plenty of change).

Not sure I'd be keen on it. Mithen is solid without being a real star, but does seem to be an important part of the culture, good egg to have at the club etc.

No, but I feel like they almost get better with every year. We have reached a point where the draftees have been playing the sport consistently since they were kids and the difference in skills from year one is vast.

That also said, she kinda was just a role player, never too flashy. I think picks 2 and 20 is a pretty good return if not a steal

Also it seems likely we'll retain Harris at this point which i'm fine with. We still need a brute forward who can clunk em or hurt them with Zanker. Other than those two i say our forward half is a bit soft

We did have to give back pick 10 and 28 as well. It's a decent deal but she's a heart and soul player. You can't go giving away those players and not expect it to impact negatively in some way. Pick 2 might be a good player, but they won't impact greatly for a number of years. Maybe the club is conceding its not a contender next few years. Either way Lily is a gun on and off the field. Shame she has to go to such a s* plastic franchise like GC.

This is bang on. The new draftees have been playing since kids, some of the OG were hobbyists until adulthood (not by choice).

That trade is a ****ing old timey NBA trade from the formation years. Or early Freo lol.

Agreed, but we did give up pick 10. So it's an 8 spot upgrade. Good business still, but giving away a heart & soul type player comes with risk.

I’ll take the risk and run with it.

I recall once watching her podcast (I wasn’t a great fan of it but I gave it a go). Her close friendship group comprised people who aren’t at the club anymore. I like her but we lose a battler for someone who will almost certainly start with better skills 18 or not.

What we lose here is experience and I guess there is a sentimental side for some. I hope she goes great but an 8 spot upgrade in the top 10 is very good business.

I like lil, i hate to see her go. That goal in that semi final against the giants, the celebration will live on my head forever

But you can't force someone of her character to stay on if she doesn't want to be retained, we netted a good deal in response. We both left on good terms. We've both got new challenges.

I do also think some newer younger mids would have threatened her position if I'm being honest. Again sorry to see her go, but the reality of her being a starting mid by the end of her contract probably wasn't that high, and i don't know if she has the adaptability go play other spots. She would have been pushed out by then (not so much due to her age but the game catching up a bit with more developed talents coming through compared to inaugural draftees who kind of came from squat). It's quite logical for both parties. Gold coast need some experience which will guarantee Lil games and we need to rejuvenate a little. I see it a little similar to the O'Dea trade

Simply if you equate it the MFC men's over the years. She didn't get harshly cut like junior who could have kept going, nor is she staying on to long while her value is still up there

Agree, and like that the W program are willing to make these sort of moves compared to the M program hanging onto Clarry, Petty, Trac when we may have gotten better long term value from a trade.

Lils been good for us. Also loved that SF goal and celebration, but she's probably not going to get notably bigger, quicker or more skilled at this point. Moving up from 10 to 2 gives us a much better chance of a long term gun.

agreed, but we would have been a lot better if we had of got another mid 1st Rnd pick in...

eg: P2, P12ish, P20, and so on.

But looks to have good awareness and on these highlights looks more than willing to get a hard ball or tackle when needed. Didn't see much marking in this highlights pack though

Agree on Bannan comparison. Maybe doesn't have the same top speed but a good burst to get space based on highlights, and a bit more dawg about her than Banno. Seemed v highly rated based on the AFLW site.
