I think you mean that you hope its benign. Malignant is bad. In any case, its confirmed as a malanoma, which by definition is malignant. Here's hoping they got it all and with follow up treatment and monitoring he has no further issues. Great player and seems a really good bloke.

No there is not. We just need to hope that it was identified early enough and that it has all been removed.

If it hasn't spread it's usually a pretty straight forward surgery resulting most times in complete cure - no long term health effects at all apart from a check up every so often for the first 2 years or so. If it has spread already, well, it's not good at all.

Essentially - If it hasn't spread, it's all 'contained' and can be removed by surgery.
If it has spread - surgery won't cut it, and we are desperately lacking in long-term effective therapies against malignant melanoma.
