What if the 1976 Preliminary final between Carlton and North Melb ended up in a draw instead of the kangas winning by 1 point?

With less than a minute to go David McKay had a shot from about 50 metres out that looked like going out on the full and Blight took the mark on the line next to the behind post. McKay mentioned that he tried too hard to kick for goal and if he knew there was less than a minute to go he would have made it certain of scoring a point.

That would have drawn the game and the repercussions for Hawthorn who won the premiership that year would have been huge. The hawks, already in the grand final had the week off and a prelim replay would have meant another week off for them. They may have gone into the grand final under-conditioned. That dilemma would have been compounded by the unfortunate passing of Peter Crimmins during the delayed grand final week.

North Melb probably would have won the prelim replay as Carlton seemed to lose their winning form after they drew with Footscray at Princes Park in round 22. Jezza, if he played, would have carried a knee injury that he copped during the first prelim and Carlton coach Ian Thorogood may have been outcoached by Barassi.

North Melb, maintaining their momentum unlike the hawks, would then have had a greater chance of winning back to back flags.

Sirengate. Round 5 2006 Fremantle vs St Kilda

Had the scores remained as it is with the AFL Commission not overturning the result, St Kilda would've finished 5th with a 13-1-8 record and Fremantle 4th with a 13-1-8 record separated by percentage. The result also impacted Week 1 of the 2006 Finals Series

Here's how week 1 of the 2006 Finals would've panned out

First Qualifying Final
West Coast Eagles vs Fremantle @ Subiaco

Second Qualifying Final
Adelaide vs Sydney @ Football Park

First Elimination Final
St Kilda vs Western Bulldogs @ MCG

Second Elimination Final
Collingwood vs Melbourne @ MCG

I stand corrected on my OP.

The proposed promotion/relegation was between the VFL/VFA. The VFL wanted a play-off between the last place team and the winner of the VFA. While the VFA wanted straight promotion for the team that finished top of the ladder.

Had this happened in the mid 40s, teams like Geelong, St Kilda and Hawthorn could have been replaced with the likes of Port Melbourne, or Williamstown. Who knows what the make up of the AFL could be now.

What if ricciuto didnt get parvovirus and miss the 2006 finals series? His hardness would have helped us hold on in the 2006 prelim and we had the wood over sydney during this time. No "Leo Barry, you star" moment and we would have won the flag. Maybe...
