Just put a Few Up I would like to see the Pies Look at

Lucas Cook – 195cm, 80kg – Key Forward – North Ballarat
In 2008 Cook played three matches for Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under – 16 Championships, averaging 13 disposals, three marks, and 4 inside 50’s, and also 5 matches for North Ballarat in the TAC Cup. He backed this up to play 15 games as a lead up key forward, scoring 14 goals at an accuracy of 64%. He also tallied 23 score assists – ranked equal 9th in the competition.

We need another Young Tall as accept for Dawes we don't have any young Key Forwards Developing. Cook sounds a Good Kick at Goal

Harley Bennell 184cm, 71kg - Utility – Peel Thunder
Bennell is a creative, outside player whose run and quick hands bring teammates into the game. He played 22 WAFL Colts games in 2009 including the grand final loss to Claremont. He averaged 18 disposals and 3 marks per game, kicking a total of 33 goals. His most influential match was against East Fremantle in Round 12 when he amassed 23 disposals, took 10 marks and scored 4 goals. In his league debut in Round 23 he had 17 disposals and kicked 2 goals. Averaged 146 Super Coach points in the 2009 WAFL Colts final series

Drafted his Brother and He sounds like a Beauty and we need some small Crumbers

Sam Day – 196cm, 80kg – Key Forward – Sturt
Day has played high-level basketball and is also an outstanding baseballer. He is athletic, has strong hands, competes well and played 6 matches for Sturt Under-18’s in 2009 as a key forward and ruckman. From those appearances he scored 9 goals and averaged 11 disposals and 10 hit-outs per match. For South Australia at the NAB AFL Under-18’s Championships, he racked up 37 disposals in 4 matches at an elite efficiency of 87%.

Another Good Key Forward but could be Gone by our 1st Pick

Scott Lycett – 202cm, 91kg – Key Forward – Port Adelaide
At 202cm Lycett is a key forward and also more than competent ruckman. IN 2009 he played eight matches for Port Adelaide Magpies in SANFL Under-18’s competition, averaging 16 disposals, five marks and 13 hit-outs per match, while also scoring 18 goals for the season including 5 against Glenelg in Round 10. He played six matches at reserves level and two matches for South Australia at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships in which he averaged 11 disposals, four marks, including two contested, and booted 3 goals in total.

Just in case if Fraser does not last longer and if Keeffe and McNamra don't pan out

Luke Mitchell – 195cm, 83kg – Key Forward – Calder Cannons
Mitchell is a key position forward who played four matches for Vic Metro in the 2008 NAB AFL Under-16 Championships and also two games for Calder in the TAC Cup at the end of that season. In 2009 he played 12 matches for Calder and was instrumental in their success. His 28 goals ranked him equal 14th on the TAC Cup goal kicking ladder and his 80 marks at an average of 7 per match was elite, which included 26 contested and 21 on the lead.

It's march the 6th our first game is march the 28th

we then have at least 21 more games before the draft, then finals.

Luke Mitchell is nothing like Rocca, totally opposite player, although he is a key forward he is much more agile in the Reiwoldt type mould.

Good work Dave. Considering our pick will be in the early 20s, I think the chance of getting a good big bloke are pretty slim, but I definitely think that a good strong tall key forward is where we need to be looking.

Yeah a Tall Forward is something that Hine should be looking for

Re: 2010 Prospectus Draft Top 25 - Player I like to Pies to Look at

sure its good for any club to pick up a young key forward at any point, i just dont see it as specificlly relevant to collingwood, who need a gun right now, not in x years...

we all know talls take a few years to come on, so if we are expecting our 'window' to still be open in say 5 years time, id think it was a great idea... i guess thats debatable...

id prefer to trade for an older, proven key forward, fev or hall would have been ideal, but other guys like tippet, pav, even tarrant would be good... pav has signaled he wants to finish in melbourne yeah? dont know when he is contracted to... pav 2011!?!!?

Re: 2010 Prospectus Draft Top 25 - Player I like to Pies to Look at

Pav? I doubt he would come to Victoria he is from SA but we really need a player like him at Collingwood. Wont happen though

Re: 2010 Prospectus Draft Top 25 - Player I like to Pies to Look at

I really hope we go on the look for one of those athletic 200cm players with key forward potential.

Re: 2010 Prospectus Draft Top 25 - Player I like to Pies to Look at

I hope our recruiters have a good hard look at all of those 25 named, and a few hundred more as well.

Re: 2010 Prospectus Draft Top 25 - Player I like to Pies to Look at

I have 110% faith in Hine at this point. Whoever he picks I am completely fine with. That said the emphasis should probably be on talls, whether you'd go so far as to pick a tall potential KP player ahead of the best avaliable is the question. I'd say yes right now, my answer might be different come draft time.

GC and GWS certainly throw a spanner in the works. But looking at Beams and Sinclair I'm not really that worried.

Operation: Get pav

This will be a short thread. No doubt it will be locked and deleted soon enough after maybe a handful of people look into it. And i know it is only round 3, but...

I was happy with Trav tonight. At least his misses for goal were a lot closer than the usual sprays. His hands were good and he was a big part of us being on top in the first half.

We have a strong and disciplined backline, a good midfield who apply a lot of pressure and a game plan that restricts teams kicking big scores against us. We got a ruckman that we desperately needed (although he hasn't hit any form yet) and an abundance of dangerous small forwards. But the biggest piece of the puzzle that we are missing is a big strong power forward who can take big marks and kick straight. We saw this all last year and unless we bring in the ball differently to our forward line, we risk the same result.

Time to start OPERATION: GET PAV

Out of contract and the same age as Fraser. What would you give for him? Or who else would you target?

Re: Operation: Get pav

I think Pavlich is a bit overrated to be honest, but he'd still be around a billion times better than what we've got now. Shame it won't happen, I think Pav will stay with the Dockers for life, they're even having some success now so it's unlikely he'll cut and run.

Definitely need to trade for a key forward this year though, don't have the time to wait for a draft pick to develop, the question is who.

Re: Operation: Get pav

Nah, we tried that already, took Josh Fraser and traded away the pick 3 (?) for Steven Mckee in the draft Pavlich went no.4 or 5 in.

That's worked out well.

he went at pick 4..... Although Freo have gotten off to a good start... if they lose their way- who knows? I'm just hoping for someone big and strong who can take big pack marks consistently and can kick straight for goal.

Re: Operation: Get pav

If Carlton weren't the scum that they are, we'd have had Fev now and we'd be a serious premiership threat. But seeing as they ARE scumbags to the last, they wouldn't deal with us. We didn't really need Luke Ball, we needed Fevola. A forward who is arrogant enough and confident in his ability to win a game off his own boot. I doubt Fevs style would fit into Malthouses gameplan though, as he doesn't want any standout players, just eveness across the board. We seriously need a real full forward.

If we had him- maybe the gameplan would change?

Ah, yes, that one he kicked out of bounce on the full across goal with a set shot in the last was very close......The guy is a very average player, the sooner people realise it, the better their chance of keeping their sanity.

As for Pav, would love him, but very slim chance of it happening. We've gone from having a feared forward attack two years back to a shambles at the moment.

If we had him- maybe the gameplan would change?

Get real. MM is a one trick pony and opposition coaches know it. Why do you think he has been outcoached in his last two games by "inferior" coaches.

Re: Operation: Get pav

Malthouse does some things extremely well, he gets workmanlike performances out of his players, and makes them play to their potential. But he's not a versatile coach, and I don't necessarily think he's a great strategist (though he's by no means poor,as plan A is still generally fairly effective). He gets players playing to his gameplan, and playing it well. But if a team figures out that gameplan, and can counter it well (i.e. Hawks, who I think will hand us a 2-2 record going into R5), there is no plan B. He makes small weird tinkering changes and that's about it. Like putting players in positions whom have no right playing there, in what seems like move simply to change SOMETHING.

I actually can't wait for Buckley to get the job, not because I think he will be a fantastic coach, but just because I want to see what changes in the way our team plays with someone else, as Malthouse has been our coach for so long, and our only decent coach since Matthews in the early 90's. It's obvious to me that there are too many issues with our gameplan in order to win a flag under Malthouse, even besides the talent. If we had Geelong's list it probably wouldn't matter, but given we don't, we IMO need a more creative coach to get us over the line.
