Melbourne should decide to sack him when and if they can get a better replacement. Not much point in doing it now, particulary when I understand that the other coaches at Melbourne are not rated as any good. Who do they pick as caretaker?

I think the Dank situation might be weighing on them as well.

Its a good comparison with Essendon. They have a coach they love and captain they love, and they're playing hard regardless of the turmoil around the club.

The dees are a team of guys who for the most part havne't played together, and don't feel secure in their spots in the side. They're playing for a coach they don't trust and two captains who are perpetually injured and very young.

I don't even think on-field results is the greatest source of pressure any more. Apologies for the cynicism, but the people from upstairs are only probably taking notice now because of the abysmal crowd numbers. And that shouldn't be a reflection on Melbourne fans either, why should they fork out all that money to watch an uncompetitive side?

Replace the coach, get the 'hope' train running up again with the favorite son Viney as caretaker, players might pull their finger out. More people will show up.

Just ****ing do it.

I can't bear the way he spins 100 point losses anymore as if we're a bunch of ****ing robots.

The funniest thing is that 90% of the Dees supporters who wanted him gone yesterday morning have either gotten cold feet, or have bought into Neeld's hype that our effort was so good and we'll be right in 5 years time when Gawn and Evans have played 100.

I seriously hope so...

Neeld's time is up, players have gone backwards.

Us supporters need some hope!!

I can't believe that after the criticism Neeld faced last week for losing to Fremantle he didn't come out yesterday and coach Melbourne to a win against the Hawks. Anyone can see that he just needed to be more coachier. Maybe tell the players to play football better? Did he think of that? No! He could have come out with a new gameplan, one which involved his players getting the ball and kicking more goals. With his gameplan they kicked six goals, but with a better gameplan they could have kicked 25, or even 30 goals, and then they would have won. What has he spent the last week even doing?! This is a level of coaching ineptitude up with which Melbourne must not put, and I for one am glad that the media have brought it to our attention.

Given the fact that Melbourne have completely ballsed up every major decision they have had to make for the last few years the odds are that they will again here and he will keep his job.

Of course he is and sacking him won't make a scrap of difference, Melbourne's problems stem from poor recruiting and development that began way before Mark Neeld took over. You need to go back to drafts from 2006 onwards to see just how many errors they have made. The majority of their first round picks haven't really set the world on fire and when you look at who they could've taken then it all becomes very clear. Neeld will get the boot, but his replacement is also walking on hot coals!

NAIL ON HEAD!

Actually, I've just looked at their drafts from 2001 onwards, and by my very quick and very rough estimate I would say that they have had 9 successful draft picks out of 50! That's 18%!

If I had time I would love to compare this to Stephen Wells at Geelong or Derek Hine at Collingwood.

How the hell did the recruitment and development team keep their jobs for so long with such an abysmal record? Was no one overseeing this? Surely there would have had to be end of year reviews and KPI's to meet?

The more I look into it, the more I feel sorry for Neeld.

Not saying Neeld has no blame to shoulder but at some point the playing group have to take responsibility, they are paid a lot of money to do something that everyone would love to do and they treat it with disdain. There is no doubt that many are not up to scratch but players like Sylvia and Davey should be removed from the list and never play afl again. Jack Watts has fallen into the bust category but he really needs to work out what player he is going to be, he's 196cm and 90kg and is running round pretending he's a half back flank. Send him forward or stick him on a man and keep him there, or trade him while he has some value

They're playing a game plan that they don't have the skill to execute. Coach's fault.

Some people are missing the point. This isn't some knee jerk to response to a bad loss yesterday. Nor does anyone expect Melbourne to be Top Four contenders. The Demons are playing as though they've forgotten how to play football. They've been getting steadily worse over the past 30 games.

It's obvious to everyone who knows anything about football they need to make a change of coach.

Even Neeld would admit (if he was honest with himself) that the current situation is untenable

I don't like the way the media are always gunning for the coaches who are under the pump. I find the obsession with "sacking the coach" to be extremely distasteful. However, anyone who thinks Neeld should hold his job are either in denial or they haven't a clue.

The funny thing about it, there's always the caveat of "we don't want to talk about sacking coaches" and they're always flapping around as much as possible to portray themselves as being nothing more than impartial observers. I guess that's one thing with Caro, at least she's honest when calling for heads and doesn't go about pretending she's conflicted about the situation.

I think he'll be coaching...
Peter Jackson will move toward stability, if I recall, that was one of the issues he mentioned in the media.
if MFC sack yet another coach, who in their right mind would want coach next?

Even if they weren't playing without a heart at the moment (most of them anyway), he was deadset gone the moment we all saw that ****ing awful pregame revup he gave the boys.

The way I see it:

Viney - good pedigree, took over as caretaker last time but (allegedly) clashes with Neeld. Doesn't want to be a head coach, especially wiht Jack in the team. Will be retained for sure.

Rawlings - Took over backline coach from Sean Wellman. Our backline has regressed even though Frawley/Garland/McDonald are a solid core. Has experience as a caretaker though at Richmond and is apparently a good 'players coach'. Could be the most logical option for caretaker but needs to be replaced as a backline coach. Fletcher or Glass or Rutten would be ideal candidates imo.

Leigh Brown - Our forward line is actually pretty efficient, we just don't have anywhere near the supply, and lack a genuine crumber. Our decisions going forward are shocking, but the ability to convert is there.

Brian Royal - The weakest link. Been at the club for aeons and our midfield is a shocker. May have been retained purely because Neeld wants to be in charge of the midfield and knows Royal won't question him. With Viney on staff (one of about 3 midfielders I can recall at the MFC who has actually been All Australian) I can't see his value. Need to throw the kitchen sink at someone like Simon Black to replace him next year.

Neil Craig - obviously a reasonable pedigree but is Neeld's man. Has expressed no desire to take over as head coach and might be shown the door with Neeld if it comes down to it.

FYI: That's total bullshit.

Wallsy spoke about this on SEN this morning. Why would anyone want to coach Melbourne when in a couple of years time you're likely to get get knifed as well. If they do decide to terminate Neeld, they really need to get an experienced coach. Not a chance Roos will do it, so maybe they need to enquire about Choco Williams, Eade or even Ratten.
