Australian music has been much maligned in recent years and quite rightly in some cases, our popular music scene is in the worst shape it has ever been.

but that doesn't mean there aren't great bands out there working away in little pubs and clubs doing what they love. this is a thread for them

the church - space saviour
album - untitled 23

st helens - how to choose your guru pt 2
album - heavy profession

the drones - river of tears
album - cannot buy my soul (the songs of Kev Carmody)

^^ Yes! Don't forget Shannon Noel either.

I'm actually listening to The Avalanches Gimix mix right now. :thumbsu:

If you liked Since I Left You you'll love this too, actually IMO it's better than Since I Left You. Sign up on their website to get it free + a few other mixes.

New (and newish) bands that I saw on the circuit last year that really impressed me (off the top of my head) were Bitter Sweet Kicks, The Dozers, The Beat Disease, Kids at the Zoo, Witch Hats, Swedish Magazines, Deaf Wish, Dacios, G.U.T, and the RIP Rides.
Whilst they all impressed me Bitter Sweet Kicks in particular blew me away. I've seen these guys over a dozen times in the last year and they are the real deal!

I'm yet to see Bitter Sweet Kicks (must remedy that soon) but The Dacios, Witch Hats, Swedish Magazines (not exactly new) and Deaf Wish are all fine bands.

There's nothing wrong with Australian music when you have stuff like this coming out (and winning the Australian Music Prize).

Dave McCormack (mainly working with the Polaroids and having released his latest album at the end of last year).

A sample from his new album.

Awesome afrobeat band out of Melbourne. Two Sides of the Truth is a great track and currently getting lots of airplay on Triple J(*Insert JJJ rage to keep the hipsters happy*)

Be'Lakor (Melodic Death Metal)

One of the best Melodic Death bands that I have heard, infact second behind Finland's Insomnium.

Big discovery The Church, only been around for 30 or so years. Maybe one day they'll be as big as Eskimo Joe, fingers crossed for them.

Quite like this up and coming WA band, should take 2006 by storm. You heard it here first.:thumbsu:
