Sounds great must move up there.

I know a lot of people that live there and am down there quite regularly, not my favourite place to visit but sometimes I just need to get things done.

Three blokes were due to drive up to site today to start their swings, I don't expect they'll be there in the morning. I'd expect they've all stayed home with their families.

Won't the get the sack?

Car and motorbike theft (in fact, anything that pretty much isn't nailed down or locked up) is a daily way of life in parts of Kal./Boulder There's almost daily videos posted online of offenders just brazenly entering properties and helping themselves, they don't give a stuff, nothing happens to them.

People feel like they're living under siege in their own homes.

Oh yeah, I can well imagine it :(

Used to happen quite a bit when I was in Leonora. Word would spread that there was a funeral and there'd be a heap of people coming in from the missions. You just wouldn't go into town.
In Halls Creek once word got out that groups from Balgo were coming in, even the local indigenous would get out of town or so the story goes

Wasn't unusual in Broome for the cops to shutdown the bottleshops if trouble was brewing or they thought there might be some - people in the surrounding communities coming to town for a big funeral was often a trigger. I'd suggest Kalgoorlie would be similar

That's on top of the restrictions already in place - no beer in longnecks, no alcohol sold in larger than a 750ml container so no cask wine/goon bags, only one visit per day per person etc

It's a circuit breaker
Back in the 90s there was a nature strip on the road between Woolies and the Coles carpark nicknamed 'Skinny Park'. Every dole day (and even other days) without fail there would be Aboriginals passed out everywhere and people shopping would just casually walk around them with their shopping like it was nothing.. Doesn't happen anymore though.

I've got a bit of a soft spot for the place, it's got a lot of great history and character and lived there for a bit a few years back but it's ****in rough. Rarely walked anywhere past about an hour after dark and always locked the front door especially when alone.

Funnily enough never personally had any trouble but you just always felt you needed to really watch your back.

The four aboriginals at my work are pissed because they always take their kids to Freo for the show.

So, well done. :thumbsu:
From yours truly in another thread

How people from the cities down South from both political spectrum extremes think they have such a great understanding of indigenous issues in regional areas whilst showing a ignorance of the many complexities.

Also applicable to this issue.

Now who had a go of me for saying that Freo has been taken over by self important hipsters.

There are indigenous who do feel uncomfortable with the day as some point out millions of times and there are also many of them who do not give a two hoots and the celebrations are a good excuse to have a beer and take the kids out for some fun.

Why are they protesting about demanding justice by attacking the court building, where the accused is about to face court? Isn't that justice in it's proper form??
It does seem more stupid than some of the other protests that happen. Guy has been charged. At least wait for the outcome of the case to judge if there has been a miscarriage of justice. I do not see how murder could be a charge with a legitimate chance of being found guilty based off the facts that have been reported so far.

My nephew who is a cop always told me if I wanted to get away with murder then use my car to run them down

Considering the high rate of indigenous incarceration, the guy is going to find prison very lonely as he will need to be protected - he is going to spend every moment looking over his shoulder

Any recommendations for accommodation near the Exhibition Centre, preferably apartment style? Also after wheelchair friendly activities to do with an 18month old. Thanks Perth peeps!

Mounts Bay Waters Apartments. That whole area near the Exhibition centre is a bit dark and nothing much there either. Plenty of apartments along Langley Park that you could probably find off Stayz/AirBnb that may be worth a look. Depends on how long you're staying.

It's for my sister in law, she's in a wheelchair and can't travel too far by car so it has to be close to the Exhibition centre. She's presenting at a conference there.

In that case there are plenty of apartments in the Mounts Bay part so you should be able to find something there. There's also a Hilton across the road from the exhibition centre but was pretty expensive from memory.

TBH MEB_ I don't think the area is overly wheelchair friendly if you had to traverse mounts bay road footpaths. It's no doubt expensive at the adina but probably the best for accessing the convention centre. I think a better option would be staying a short distance and cabbing It for accessibility purposes but Perth has an awful reputation for people waiting for disability taxis.

As for the second part I wouldn't have a clue other than the zoo which is on the other side of the river

My hot tip would be not to kill teenagers IMO

Liza Harvey comming out and saying no racial tensions in the town, Thanks for that, If i wanted to find out about racial tensions in a country town im going straight to a 50 year old white politician. It's insulting.

It's laughable that the grandfather and others on social media say it's been simmering for a while and yet she dismisses that. He also talked about funding projects for youth being taken away and the kids having nothing to do

In my workplace today there was very open discussion about how racist Kalgoorlie is and nothing is done to change that perception
