The positive

Just some of the points we can glean from tonights game, it was a bad night for the club but we can have hope that it wont last forever.

1. Maric - Smart player, thinks before he acts & wants to create play. Dose not appear selfish or hungry.
2. Valenti - The little fella will give anything a go, even up forward & did well.
3. Morton - 4 months in the gym in the OS will do wonders for his poise & strength over the ball.
4. Sylvia - never gave up, still needed to run a bit harder without the ball but played with some spirit, there has ben talk of a trade but I don't think we should unless we are offered pick 2 or 3 which wont happen.
5. PJ - Love the effort at every contest then the work off the ball also.
6. Aussie - Aaron Davey circa 2004/05, just love the little bloke.

And a few others that with time will be good players for MFC.

Maric was good..We was caught star gazing a few times...But he's a dedicated player. I rate him.

I can see alot of potential in this guy. I look forward to watching him in the future.

3. Morton - 4 months in the gym in the OS will do wonders for his poise & strength over the ball.
Maybe...I don't know how he will go in the draught...I hope I am wrong in my presuppositions

4. Sylvia - never gave up, still needed to run a bit harder without the ball but played with some spirit, there has ben talk of a trade but I don't think we should unless we are offered pick 2 or 3 which wont happen.

I think Colin's problem is hardness. I have always rated him as a player of the future. If he plays in a good team he will learn off them and become a vital player...He reminds me of Corey Enright... :) (thats a compliment)

5. PJ - Love the effort at every contest then the work off the ball also.

I agree...He tried hard....It's hard though, especially after tonight.

6. Aussie - Aaron Davey circa 2004/05, just love the little bloke.

Wait until he is back in full form.

BTW - A great positive thread.

THUMBS UP!

When dealing with a 116 point pantsing you could be accused of clutching at straws with a thread like this but Valenti was a genuine positive. A few weeks ago in the Valenti thread I mentioned how his height factor up forward will be crucial regarding head high tackles. Tonight he got 4 free kicks from head high tackles up forward for a return of 2G 1B. Seriously, this guy goes in hard and gets the frees without even having to play for them - he's an extractor. For a guy who was battling to get a game at all earlier this year he could be one of our most important players to come out of 2008. A midfielder who plays forward and can consistently manufacture goals by going in for the hard ball is a rarity for us.

Also I thought Maric's field kicking under pressure was quite good. Obviously he is a sharp shooter at goal but he could be quite handy for us a little further down the ground as well in years to come.

I think Buckley looks like a bit of a find. Hard at it already and will develop into a good player I think. I recall he was good against us in the NAB cup also... caught my eye then too. Your club needs this type of player, and while he may make some mistakes now... he'll develop later.

Paul Johnson goal from the boundary
Aussie chase down of Rooke and Ottens
Bartham to shut down Ablett
Valenti played well
Wreckers 27 touches
Macca courage against Mooney

Jeff White and Nathan Carroll played not that bad....

Some postives...

martin was really good tonight
i think he will be a player
and frawley looks good as well cant believe Warnocks been getting a game ahead of him

While Jones wasn't good tonight, i think his decision making was better so the run at Sandy did it's job.

Tonight he thought about it a little more, couple of nice side-steps like when he was playing with confidence, before kicking it off the side of his boot

I'd like to pay homage to the likes of Valenti, Sylvia, Buckley and Maric who did well despite being absolutely reamed by Geelong. I spose a loss like this shouldn't come as that big a surprise when you think about it, however I think it's safe to say in the long run we're in good hands.

What did you blokes think of Deans 1/4 time spray? I don't think I've ever seen him crack the shits before

being tagged by ling for a large portion of the match probably didn't help his stats, but it's good to see his decision making and disposal quality has improved.

Maric and Valenti definitely showing really positive signs. Look forward to seeing them next year. :thumbsu:

Hard to find any that haven't been mentioned so far, agree with all of the ones mentioned. The main positive is the thread itself. As bad as we have been/are/will be in the future, the 2nd half of this year has seen progress in all areas. It's a long way to the top but at least we've shown a few signs of life.

Maric, Valenti & Martin showed they have something there tonight.

the only positive i can give you is that carlton were this bad two years ago...:(...so alot can change in a year or to, chin up guys...positive for me is stynes reducing bad debt, you've got to start somewere:)

gotta be positive, we are without doubt the most inexperienced team going around, we had been playing okay up until this game. This sort of thrashing happens sometimes when you are rebuilding, I'm just glad we scored a few goals, for a while there I thought it was going to be 30 goals to zip:eek:

positives:

- Jimmy's the best president going round
- supporters passionate as anyone. 2 million bucks. $2mill!
- Aussie rocks
- the Q time spray seemed to work and the boys didn't give up

Whilst watching the game, I couldn't help but note that Melbourne had a lot of young guys playing. We're in the same situation - at least the their getting some experience and it will inevitably take a bit of time to get up to speed. Quite a few of them showed hints that they could be good players in the future.

We lost to them by less than Richmond did last year.

White and Carroll's rubbish performances prove that they are finished. (Was Jamar injured)

Maric was good. Wona gave a bit of excitement.

Warnock and Martin went okay, Frawley had a go as well.

The coaching staff got to see that it is all about having a fit, skilled, tough and quick midfield (Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Ling, Selwood, Prismal etc). Draft Rich this year so we can have our own dominant midfield in a few years. This preseason McLean and Jones should seriously be pushed by Valenti, Morton, Buckley, Dunn, Moloney etc and not Meesen so that we can get on top of teams in the future. I truly believe that if you win the midfield like Geelong do you can have Newton and Miller as your forwards.

We could lose by over 100 points and go in favourite next week!

Negatives
Bartram's haircut.

I usually think you're on the money master_bate but I'd rather Watts over Rich. Key forwards >>>>>> midfielders.

We have the nucleus of what could be a very good midfield, but they will need someone to kick it to. We can take a mid with pick 17 anyway.

One positive that everyone seems to have overlooked:

Before last night, there were 16 quarters left till the end of the season.

Now there are 12.

Not that I want to make it seem like I've been counting down since March.
