Does anyone here do karate?

I have been thinking about getting back into martial arts. I did a lot of taekwondo when I was younger, and it seems like shotokan or kyokushin karate would be a pretty natural progression. I find all the different karate associations a bit overwhelming and I'm not really sure which ones are highly regarded or how to find a good sensei.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated - I really don't want to end up at a McDojo surrounded by kids.

May i suggest

I got an email the other day from a colleague, and the signature block had (she/her) in brackets after the name.

Does anyone know the significance?

Normally I would assume it is a trans thing, but the colleague in question is not trans (at least, as far as I am aware). Her name isn’t gender-ambiguous either.

Its not just for those that actually are trans/non-binary where their preferred pronouns actually make a difference, but also something done on social media as a way of showing that they are an "ally" of the trans community, so I can only assume this colleague has decided to do the same at work.

As an aside, I don't know why, but I hate the term "ally" in this context

@drd23 is probably on the mark - I didn’t realise it was a thing on social media
Has been for at least a couple of years, and has gotten to the point that various platforms are actually including it as a separate field to be shown in profile bios

Yeah most people I see doing this are sloooots I follow on twitter.

Wait wut?
So, you will use these pronouns, even if your "straight", in order to show "support" for those that are not? Is that right?
If so, thats all sorts of f’ed up, sorry.
Stop with the posturing and the posing.

I honestly thought they were lezzies - my fantasy is in tatters :(

Well, yes - I kind of got that from context - I just wasn’t sure why it was suddenly in her signature

:hand::hand::hand: POINT OF PERSONNEL PRIVILIGE - please do not use gendered language to address people

Seen it heaps in a dating app I’m on. She/her. Cis Woman. Cisgender. At least they put the red flag up so I know who to avoid.
