This club is genuinely cursed

I cannot people are they we are curse, the 7 years under laidley, 10 years under brad, that was the bad years as we languished somewhere around the middle of the table. Not getting the top picks while not gaining anything from beaten out of the finals in the first round of final.

Right now we are actually building a proper team from the ground up, for the first time, we might be able to build a team that has a genuine chance of winning a flag or few.
Are we going to retain out of contract players?

Are we going to attract HQ RFAs ourselves?

We ain't building a premiership team through a few high quality kids and some unwanted cannon fodder from other clubs...

Highly quality rfa, umm, even premiership teams find it hard to attract them.

People most likely will say franklin, dangerfield, judd etc. What did they cost and what did they achieve ultimate success with their new clubs? Dangerfield only got some success into the twilight of his career.

Who did hawthorn attract in their first year of rebuild?

I believe brent guerra was the first of many, was he a star?

We picked up logue, corr, stephenson, stephens, fisher during our worst period in history. Now you might say they are useless and shiite but if we are a top 4 team, these players would be fantastic additions.

If we can attract these, then i wonder what kind of players we can pull in when we start to rise up the ladder?

Have lurked for 20 years but the clubs current form and this thread propelled me to open an account.

Add to the list:
  • Mercurial Roo Winston Abraham’s career ending knee injury getting up from a couch. Could have been anything.
  • 300 gamer John Blakey fathers a key position defender that ends up at the Swans for life, when we desperately need a key defender with speed, vision and aerial presence.
Biggest joke that he was even allowed to get taken under the academy b.s rort, another reason to hate Sydney

Look, we can blame this and that but our club for much of last 20 years have been vastly below standard in terms of the professional standard which have handicapped the onfield performance.

In other words, we were run like club level teams that still approach the game relying on getting a batch of really good players like we did back in late 80s.

We need to really improve our corporate and professaionl approach in running the club. We need to at least become at standard first to have a chance of being competitive on the field.

There are a lot of corporate side of things we need to do, perhaps out of a left field, we should be perhaps get a giant chinese company like huawei to be our no.1 sponsor and pitch to them that our club brand, 'kanagroos' is the most visible and famous aussie symbol and we are situated right at the heart of melbourne. But of course there are political risks too.
