Thoughts on Reid

I love Ben Reid bloke is a gun and his kicking is amazing but he just gets to many injuries in big games and his only 22

People might bite my head of that's fine but think long term now CLOKE is our MVP and it's crucial we sign him so this is what I would like to see happen

GWS sign Reid we would get two first rounders in a very strong draft coming up which gives us some more young talent coming through hopefully someone with Speed as I think we lack that atm

Keefe is a Reid clone to think he only picked a football up couple years back is amazing he has played 15 games imagine in 2 years time with another 30 I can see him at Reids level and his kicking is not far of Reids he is very impressive

So this frees up cash and gets some young talent into the team which we can hand pick to fill our weaknesses and we really do not lose to much apart from depth

Tarrant has 2 years left and Brown will be FB/CHB for the next decade

Thoughts ?

Yes, Reid is too injury prone. He usually has soft tissue injuries, which because they keep happening are more likely to continue for the rest of his career.

As much as I hate saying this, I now think Reid should be the one to go to GWS too, if one of our players has to due to cap issues.

If we get two first rounders as well as the one we already will have, would be great for us, given the depth of this years draft. If our recruiting staff pick well we might not even drop out premiership contention for a while.

may as well trade anyone who has had more than 3 injuries... look how long we persisted with rusling and dick, do u really think they will just trade reid? jesus i used to enjoy bigfooty...

If I had my way, I'd make Ben Reid the "Franchise Player".

How many 21 year old Centre Half Back All Australian's have their been?

Most say it takes a defender till well into their career to become a top class player at AFL level, not unlike ruckman.

Absolute top class defenders, with deadly kicks and the ability to cut the ball off in traffic (Reid was no.1 in the AFL for this last year) are the rarest commodity in the AFL.

HE IS SIMPLY ON THE DO NOT TRADE LIST, injuries or not.

No it's not like that I am thinking long term he has been injured in the last two GF's and if we lose Cloke we can kiss any premiership chances we had good bye and we all know that Thos isn't a bagging a player thread this is thinking about the future of the Collingwood Fc

Travis has injured his shoulder in the past two games, is he out too?
What about Beams, he has had a calf injury and a shin injury recently, gone?
Dawes broke his thumb and the did a calf, maybe a second rounder for him?
And of course there is no way we should keep Jolly with his injuries last year.
I think we could cut our list in half if we go through it properly, think of the cash we could save

we won one of those GF's without reid we wouldnt have even got there...

Im thinking long term to, you dont trade 21yr old AA CHB's after a couple of groin injuries thats just rubbish talk...

What I was saying, is that there is a higher chance that Reid won't be 100% compared to others. Soft tissue injuries can sometimes be prevented but Reid has had 3 or so within around a year. If this was to continue throughout his career then ultimately his career could be cut short or he would miss a hell of a lot of games.

I'm not saying to get rid of him just because he is prone to soft tissue injuries, but, as GWS are swooping for our guns, and we are under salary cap pressure it is likely that we will have to unload someone.

Be realistic here, who would you rather give to GWS; Cloke or Reid. Because that is likely to be what will happen at the end of the season. I'd be thrilled if we could keep everyone, and to unload Reid would only be a last resort.

Fair enough so who replaces Cloke when we lose him because we can't afford to pay him and your prediction for where we would finish with Reid in our team and without Cloke in our team ????

WE AREN'T LOSING EITHER OF THEM, how many times do I have to say it, god.

We will lose a lesser player, a Wellingham, a Goldsack, that type of player, in fact there's more chance of Keefe leaving for GWS then there is Reid.

Reid has already said he wants to re sign, did you miss that part too?

If the reasoning for this thread is to say we should let Reid go to GWS, then this thread = fail, because he ain't going anywhere, IT'S CERTAIN.:)

I don't mean to be demeaning but unless you have examined Reid you would have little or no idea about his fitness or body makeup.
In short you are just guessing and I would say that making a suggestion on the future of a player based on guess work is not the best way to proceed.
Now if you have some evidence then please share it.

Why do we have to give GWS anyone?

I'd back Reid in to have the longer career.

Reason being at 108kg the pressure on Cloke's knees will be massive. I see major difficulties coming in his late 20s from a durability and production standpoint. I'd back him in to be a premier key forward of the competition for another 5 years but beyond that I have my doubts he will be able to keep doing what he is doing.

With Reid while he is also strongly built I think as a key defender he will be able to keep in the game for longer. He is two years younger but additionally has the body type where he can easily slim down as Dustin Fletcher and even Matthew Scarlett have been doing in recent years to be able to keep their bodies going for longer which I think is the key.

Yes Cloke is our MVP but Reid is also a very good defender and ball user. Last week after Taz went down he moved onto Riewoldt and smashed him.

They both have said that they want to wait until the end of the season so we will have to wait and see anyway.

Losing Reid would be a disaster of epic proportions. And Keeffe is only really similar to Reid in that they're both tall, blond, and beautiful, penetrating field kicks.

Yes you're right, The club doctors would know more than I would, I'm just speaking from experience of having my own soft tissue injuries.

Given how Keefe seems to be coming along, and Hartley looks promising, maybe this isn't such a bad idea.

Reid can't seem to stop getting inured. Tarrant will be gone after this year, and we're HOPING Brown stays injury free.

Might have to bite the bullet.

So if we are going to lose Tarrant and have no clue about Browns future.....you suggest we get rid of our AA defender simply because Keeffe has played two good games?

Not sure i get your line of argument. Keeffe was apparently the worst player on the planet just a month ago. Hartley has played.....let me check.....yes, zero games.

And back to my first post....how does trading Reid guarantee that we keep Cloke?

I do not want to lose either of Reid or Cloke and with the way Keeffe is tracking now he would be a massive loss as well, for a bloke who looked hopeless in the nab cup he has really stood up in fact In fact for me he has been the biggest positive to come out of this season so far.

We have had terrible luck with injuries this year when was the last time any club had 3 ACL,s in a season it just does not happen, but there are definitely positives to come from the season so and best one is the form of our younger players and getting some gametime into boys who have only just come into the system.

We do not want to lose any KPP,s they just do not grow on trees and good are worth their weight in gold.

I'm still trying to come to terms with the view that we have to give one of them up.
Is there a new rule that I'm not aware of or something.

And supposing we do trade Reid and GWS sign Cloke as an out of contract player, where are we then?

Maybe its a full moon Timmy

I agree with you Matty he is Super Important and I would never get rid of him. Yes he has some Injuries but Nothing to Serious.

He is the Best CHB in the COMP and his Field Kicking is Amazing.

I would rather Lose Cloke over Reid if 1 had to go
