Just thought I'd get some views on these 2 players, on where they are now and where they will finish up.

Both are 200cm, 100kg monsters.

The Bulldogs were screaming out for a big target up front when they decided to trade Pick 6 and Ryan Griffin for Boyd, while Wright was picked up with Pick 8 the same year. So realistically the Bulldogs could have had their choice of the either of them.

I have been really impressed with Wright.

I love his mobility for a big bloke. 4 times this year he has kicked 3+ goals in a game this year and also has taken 8 marks in a game on 4 occasions as well.

Here are some stats to compare to 2.

Would I prefer Tom Boyd or Peter Wright? I'll take Tom Boyd.

Would I prefer Tom Boyd or Peter Wright, another player and $800,000 in cap space? Well...

Lobb got them both covered at the moment.
Boyd is quickly looking like a flop to me.
Hope I am wrong but think in time he will look no better pick ones than Josh Fraser or Anthony Banik were.
Saw highlights of his marking attempts on tv tonight from VFL game. It is not a good look.

At this stage, if Boyd ends up playing 13 seasons and 218 games like Fraser did, he'll be doing well.

He will but we expect something more wow factor than that for money he is on. He should be competing with likes of Hogan and Lynch for best young forwards but he is nowhere near it at present and sadly get the sense he never will. In all the games I watched him so far, not seen much to excite me and see the wow factor for this level.

Well taking the salary out of the equation for a moment, is his output now or his output from 2020-2024 (when he'll be 25-29, in his prime) what's most important?

Still, I don't think he'll ever quite be what people expected or projected, but then again, you probably could have said the same about Tom Hawkins (similar body and skillset coming into the league) at age 20/21 (2008-2009) as well, and he turned out to be an All-Australian and club B&F by age 24 (2012).

He's a conflicting case, but he's not going anywhere (there's no way he'll be traded or delisted while that contact is in place), so I guess it's just wait and see.

Do not know about that. I remember Hawkins coming on the scene and looking like a monster in some early games. Even one game he looked like he could be another Lockett. That has proved not to be the case but Hawkins is still a quality key forward and instrumental in Geelong's last premiership. Boyd has a long way to go. It is the signs that worry me about Boyd, not his age. Hawkins always had good signs when young. You at least like to see signs in players early even if not all put together early in their career. Bit like Darcy Moore now. I love what I see. He is still raw but can see serious talent within. Still, I not seen a lot of Boyd yet, just know what I have seen I struggle to see how he was a number one pick. He does not even look a first rounder to me. Looks like a project player you take at pick 50 ish and hope come good but accept it is a long shot. I just have to trust he has had injuries and what I seen is not a true reflection of his potential.

In what sense does Lobb have Wright covered? Wright is 3.5 years younger and already the better player.

Boyd for mine.
Wright is going to be a star like Ottens was for Richmond and Geelong but Boyd (20) is going to be a nightmare for all in the coming seasons. I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to get back into the starting 18 and begins to play consistent footy helping his team go deep into September.

Patience people.

Have you seen Wright play? At a younger age, he's already shown he's likely to be far better than Boyd. Boyd's done very nicely for himself though.

I think he'll be a nightmare for the Doggies going by on and off field showings so far.

I see more Spida Everitt in Wright myself, mainly due to his mobility.

Seen him plenty, and disagree. Boyd's consistently played footy at or above the level Wright has played in the last couple of weeks. His start to the season was excellent before he separated his shoulder.

Unfortunately, any decent footy he does play even at his age (20) will be met with "hurhur and he's not even justifying his wage yet" etc. Usually from the same types - no offense.

His salary will consistently distort how he is perceived as a player. In reality, he's progressing nicely as a young key forward, injuries and off-field rabble-rousing aside.

Laugh at the club for the contract, as is your right, but he's a good young player. The scrutiny and abuse he's been exposed to has been nothing short of pathetic, honestly.

Don't know how anyone in their right mind could pick Tom Boyd. Wright did more in his first match than Boyd has ever done, he will be an absolute jet where as the more we see of Boyd the more he looks serviceable at best

I don't often judge young key position players, but when i do i certianly like to make sweeping statements on their future career based on them having played less than 30 games...

Boyds has kicked 29 goals in his first 27 games. Buddy kicked 33 in his first 27 and turned out ok.

People saying boyd hasn't shown what wright has are forgetting that boyd did similar to the same opponents in Brisbane last year. As well as against stronger opponents in Hawks down in tassie.

But hur hur spud, hur hur 1 million.
