SAM LALOR Vic Country

After missing the start of the season with hip and groin issues, Lalor could push back up draft boards with a big national championships campaign. A powerful inside midfielder who can also go forward, he returned from injury in a school match for Geelong Grammar last month and booted seven goals from 19 disposals. Lalor also showed some good signs for the AFL Academy team in an exhibition match against Footscray’s VFL side. The Bacchus Marsh product looks up to Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey, but also has a strong defensive mindset.

People focus on the draft pick number way too much

Specially in a year like this year so far from just about every source the general consensus seems to be you have a very even top 3-4 then the next 20 are pretty even and no clear top 20

There will be no way we will be getting into the top 3 picks apart from our own so why throw away draft assets to move from say pick #15 Baker pick to pick 8 or 7

Also how many here would trade Kane McAullife today for say pick 18 ?
Just get our selections right and dont worry about the number so much

historically when its even early they all end up being spuds

The number is very important. Even in an even draft isn't it better to go 8th than 14th because you have more options?

Look at our undisputed, in-their-prime guns from the premiership teams:

Cotchin - 2nd
Martin - 3rd
Prestia - 9th
Lynch - 11th
Riewoldt - 13th
Rance - 18th

Hard to get what the Yanks call a franchise player outside of the top 5, too.

I don't think 1 number will matter too much given the evenness of the draft.
