You originally asked whether the Swans recruits would have done better than the lot we grabbed. My opinion is yes.

You than tried to turn it to mean whether they would have done better at the Lions than at the Swans. :o Read your original question.

No, you merely misinterpreted what I originally said and carried on about it.

How dare I answer the original question you posed. If you meant it in a different way, perhaps you should have re-phrased it rather than get narky.

There was no problem with the way I originally phrased my question apart from that fact that you misinterpreted its meaning.

If you don't want people to get narky with your replies then maybe a bit of self reflection on your part to make your replies come across as being less narky yourself would be a good thing. :thumbsu:

How is that a generalisation?

How about you work it out yourself, bigfella. You're smart enough with the rhetoric to get it, I reckon.

:confused::o:rolleyes:

I can use emoticons as well.

... and then you wonder why people find you condescending!

Article in the courier also said Mackie was also not favoured down at the cattery.

Based on this week's teams no, but he's contracted for 3 more years.

Gamble on the other hand is uncontracted and will be on the move in trade week.

Lions have no money under the cap, I can see us only taking youngsters this year which is a good thing. Clearly a proper rebuild is in order since Leigh Matthews never really attempted one after our premiership success.

Article was before teams were released, and basically said to the effect of he is out of favour and is in risk of losing his spot in the team. Probably something that is/was common knowledge down there though.

Cats are starting to get a few players that have a bit of trade value that can't break their 22.

I'm intrigued. What is a "proper" rebuild?

not trading away first round picks for crap like Travis Johnstone...

Don't forget, that was a pick we traded for, we already had another pick in the first round (which ironically we used to pick up Henderson). IMO picking up number 4 wasn't a bad move, considering we still had said pick in the first round.

you blame Voss for trading for TJ??? Surely he didn't have that much power from the channel 7 studios?

Whoooooosh!!!

I got the joke John, fear not! ;)

I blame Voss.

Last year we rolled the dice at trade time and it fractured our footy culture and destabilised our list. Here is the scoop

It is all Vossy's fault! He is the senior coach, our performance and development as a club seat firmly on his shoulders. This is why we pay him. I am not wanting to hang him or publicly stone him, anyone who knows my posts over the years i have shown nothing but love and admiration for Michael Voss :o

Can't wait for him to put his hand up one day and say i f##### up, sorry!

Should we make a play for Mackie if he is dissatisfied with geelong?

What's done is done...our 'glory or death' approach to last year's trade period has left the club in a worse position than anyone probably envisioned. This is what I'm thinking:

We aimed to top-up our list to take a shot at one more flag before Brown/Black/Power were gone. Clearly that didn't work.

Are we now in a position where it will be players like Rich and Banfield who will be leading the charge to our next premiership? If so, do we need to look at trading blokes say 26 years old plus, who may still have some value to another team but won't be around when we next threaten?

The two obvious players here are Drummond and Brennan. Both are already rumoured to be seeking more cash, so I say we look to trade them while we can.

Fighting to save them seems short sighted in both salary cap terms and from the role either will play in our next successful period.

I feel that some tough calls need to start being made. I mean, look at the 10 oldest players on our list: Black, Power, Johnstone, Fevola, Brown, Charman, Buchanan, Drummond, McGrath and Clarke. We are stuck with some very average players. Five of the 10 - Fev, TJ, Charmo, Buchanan and Clarke - would be of zero interest to any other club. And four of them have been traded into the Lions!

What would it take to get Mitch Clark?

It would take quite a bit.

He is clearly in our most promising young players and he is contracted. So the club would be hoping to keep him.
