Surely with Johnstone & Rischa both leaving, Sherman becomes a bit more important just as a ball-carrier?

You have to get the ball to be able to carry it! :D

Surely Johnstone won't be delisted as the Lions can't afford to trade for any senior players and that round 4 plus picks are just about worthless. So with Brennan, Riska and Selwood already gone I'm not sure how many more will be delisted and there should be a few before Johnstone. Also Johnstone can't demand much money as he wouldn't be picked up by any other club.

Also I don't care if Shermo goes, he's not worth the cash he is on ATM and I don't think there's much improvement there seeming as how he hasn't really improved over the last 3-4 years. 2nd round pick would be more than fair.

Surely if it came down to it, with a cap squeeze, 30 yo who hasn't played a full season in 4 years would be a prime target for the axe. Johnstone may be a little bit better than Sherman, but he won't be for long.

I think Johnstone would be cheaper than Austin or Collier or one of the other young guys who have a chance to be picked up by another club and as you say Johnstone would probably have a better impact in season 2011.

I think TJ is irrelevant cap-wise. No-one else will want him so it is basically a decision:

- for him, as to whether he wants to play for what we can afford to pay him; and

- for the club, as to whether he warrants a spot on the list.

I've got no leaning on that. Minor issue, in terms of our list management.

She is close to Shermo I think, seems to know whats going on with him.
By the way not all grannys are really old Nicky:)

Apologies Ceebee, I was just trying to be a little oblique. :thumbsu:
I'm not so far away from that age myself.

I'd keep Johnstone but on a reduced contract as a year by year proposition. Oddly I've warmed to him this year.

I see him and Stiller as useful depth players- they'll never set the world on fire, but for what they cost they can perform a task relatively well when required.

I agree with POBT about Johnstone needing to consider whether he is prepared to pay what the Lions are willing to pay and whether he is prepared to play long spells in the reserves. A big consideration for the Lions is how Johnstone develops the younger guys and if he is a positive influence on them and will show them what they need to do. With the way our list is looking we will have an exceptionally young midfield in the reserves and having a veteran presence might be useful.

Agree having his experience there would be valuable in the reserves as well as a valuable backup player for the lions. Just depends on whether he's prepared to do that.

Just wish there was a way we were able to have recently retired or delisted players able to just play in our reserves team providing valuable leadership to our younger players. Tim Notting is a perfect example of this. How valuable would it be for the younger guys to have him playing alongside them in the reserves this year instead of for Labrador.

When the Northern League starts in 2012, this will be possible.

Any chance of Power moving on? Heard he wants a 2 year contract but Lions only willing to give 1 year. Hasn't ruled out moving clubs to get the right deal.

Yeah, we read the same Mike Sheahan article too.

Not worried to be honest, he'll stay.

With all due respect to Luke, which club would pick him up, and why?

Courier Mail

MICHAEL Voss has vowed that Brisbane will play hardball with the Gold Coast in any trade negotiations for Jared Brennan.

Voss said the Lions will drive a hard bargain without specifying which draft pick would be enough.

"He's (Brennan) a proven match winner, he's been winning games for us and plenty of them too so that don't come cheap," Voss said.

"If it is the Gold Coast that is his preferred destination, one of our players has already been stolen from us so for any other player to go there it (draft pick) would want to be pretty good I would have thought.

Best bloody thing Voss has said all year.

damm right...I actually think the Gc will be pretty resonable after watching the lions fall apart and largely due to the GC's recruiting actions...They will know they will need to deliever a good pick to get the trade done early, as the last thing they would want is the trade stalling and some of those 3 way deals developing late in trade week.

I would expect the GC to have a good deal ready to go and Brennnan will be traded asap...because teams like the Blues will need time to work with other teams on multi trade deals.

If vossy can get us pick 7 I will almost start to forgive him for the mess he has got us into

Pick 7 is not enough. Voss would want to go harder than that. This is our chance to play hard and get above the odds for once rather than getting rammed. Brennan has always tried to bend us over at negotiation so get his manager to start bending over GC now.

Don't think I've seen it posted here but KB on SEN yesterday said that he's heard that Tambling is Brisbane bound.......any other ears out there heard of this or can we put it down to another dribble story coming out of SEN.

I hope not...the last thing we need is another player who can't find the ball, but when he does butchers it!

Seriously, Voss should concentrate on getting skills into some of the hacks he recruited last season (raines/buchanan) before he recruits another!

I think after last year, we will have a lot of people connected to us. With the Brennan trade, we really are in the box seat with it. If GC is where Brennan wants to go, a trade must get done. He wont survive in the draft, another club will grab him. So we can really ask what ever we want for him.

I think he is worth a lot to the GC for his flexibility as well. He really will be a great fit there, he will be worth 2 or 3 players to them. I think he is worth a very early pick, and i think the GC have enough picks that they can spare one to get the services of such a player.

He means they instantly have an option up foward, across HB or in the ruck. Along with Riska it also gives them 2 mids with experience and mature bodies.

The only thing we'd get better than that is 1,2,3 (incredibly unlikely) or 5 (very unlikely), or multiple later picks (11 and 13, for instance). I'd probably take the multiple later picks over 7, but I wouldn't expect anything earlier than 7.

Stolen a player?

You did get compensation of sorts and it was within the laws of the AFL so he wasn't stolen.

I think that part of the Voss comment was poor, sounds like sour grapes and trying to shift the blame for current problems he has helped create to a third party.

Pick 7 is how low GC will go IMO or they will offer two later picks.

Brennan is 27 remember.

Amazing how when people try to talk down a player they just add a couple of years to his age.

Warwick just broke his computer...
