So taking players that slip all the way to rookie and turning them into AFL players tells you we have a development problem? Perhaps spend less time pretending to have an inside contact and more time in the real world.....revered my arse.

40yB, I thought you were better than that :(

From what I can glean, we are after a hard inside nut as a priority.

Surely we can get one at pick 11 in this years draft, or is that way too hard to contemplate during the madness of Trade Week/Month????
I'm glad that we're going to embrace the draft Stig, it's the way to go mate :thumbsu:

Nick Salter being shopped around by Port Adelaide. Big bodied hard at it type, can play tall or a bash and crash midfielder - injuries have held him up but his lack of opportunities have more to do with Port's hopeless coaching over the last 5 years. Would be cheap.

I reckon he's more of a Greg Bentley than a Craig Bradley

He'd be cheap and there's good reason for that.

The only way I'd go close to considering it is if we get him with our last selection in the rookie draft. Certainly wouldn't want to use a senior spot on him.

point out the games he played terribly in this year. Was great in the few games he played and was dropped unfairly in the eyes of many.

Ratts had his favourites for playing (Garlett etc) and for dropping such as Collins and Thornton, both played well when in the team yet kept getting dropped. I have said it before but the reason we are not trading is because MM is confident of getting much more from the list than Ratts did and would ever be able to get. I think you will see a big improvement in players this year, via development, maturity and knowing that they will not get an automatic game.

The cheaper the better. Has more upside than Duigan did and that worked out OK.

Mick's way of saying...I can do better.

With Bower's exit that leaves the senior list with 34 players. Tuohy, Curnow and Casboult will all get upgraded you would think and leave us with 3 national draft picks that we have to use. So far that looks like being 11, 37ish, 55ish.

Apparently Bell is staying on the rookie list so an upgrade of picks involving a current player looks unlikely too.

Davies, White, Collins, Ellard, Rowe, Joseph will all have their spots looked at next year.

Davies, White, Ellard and Joseph will have their chances through the year to try and keep their spots. Collins has shown enough over his few games this year to show that he has what it takes to keep his spot and he should get more game time this coming year. Rowe, I personally think, will be given a third year if he performs to a certain level in both the seniors and the reserves next year. He would also be good backup in his third year for Waite who will be in his final year.

So were Ellard, AJ and Davies, all fringe players, given contracts until the end of next year because the club anticipated they would play well enough to meet our expectations or hopes? I certainly don't believe their performances warranted contract extensions until the end of next year. Instead of offering contracts for the year/s they are expected to have, or we hope they have, I think we should have offered contracts based solely on their current performances.

It seems our club is pretty generous when offering contracts to players and coaches. Greg Swann, when questioned about Ratten's extra year, couldn't offer a good explanation on why it was offered and he seemed to indicate that it was just a ($500,000) mistake. Why did we lock ourselves into these contracts? It was not like Ratten, Ellard, AJ and Davies were wanting to go elsewhere or being swamped with offers from other clubs. So I believe these were/are costly mistakes that have affected our finances and our ability to participate in this draft and I personally think our club deserves better than this.
On the plus side, if these players are so terrible as you say, next year we have 3 automatic delistings ready to go. I'd rather have Ellard waiting in the wings next season rather than a pick 80+ or something that we would have had to use if we delisted so many players.

What do people here think of Sam Sheldon. Been delisted from Brisbane. His dad Ken is a 3 time Blues Premiership player, and played 185 games for Carlton/St Kilda.

Too immobile and slow for the AFL level. Has been found out.

Sadly I'd rather place a witches hat tied to a slab of concrete out on the field in place of Sheldon. He really was terrible at the Brions.

Does that mean we have room for one player to come in via Trade / FA?

Article from Robo in HUN.
Every chance he is just guessing by stating that we "may" be a late swooper....
If we are keen though, would below do it

To Gold Coast - Our first and second round pick
To Carlton - Caddy and their second rounder, which gives us an upgrade in the second round

Think that we've dug our heels in at giving away #11 for Caddy.

If for some reason we get meat on top of it, that may just sway the CFC.
Anyway, sooner go to the draft as someone else will want the bragging rights for what Caddy has generated.
