The two choices are stark for the mandatory service.

There is a huge difference between 12 months of full time in the military and giving a weekend a month of community service.

National Service, what a rolled gold f***ing idiot Sunak is.

Surprised he's hasn't organised a six counties campaign swing to follow up what'll no doubt be an incredibly popular call in NI.

"It's ok! It's voluntary! You'll be volunteers! No I won't be checking whether that phrase has other context here, why do you ask?"

National Service ? Wow this one again. They are really scaping the barrel now. None of it costed , no input from military leaders (probably against it)
Like one of Rishis critics said if you want to increase the military then fund it better and raise salaries to make it more appealing.
Just waiting for the Tough on Law and Order announcement next.

Let's see the A level leavers from Eton and Winchester do a year in the armed forces first.

How good is the National Service plan. Conservatives really hate young people don't they.

First they completely screw the education system against them, then they screw the job market, then they make it impossible to buy a house, then they make it impossible to rent a house, and now they want to steal a year (maybe the best year) of their life.

I would not be surprised if his next big announcement is you have to show ID to buy an avocado.

Perhaps some boffin has done the numbers and concluded that they will gain more votes from older people thinking 'kids these days don't know what hard work is' than they will lose from young people.

More likely, however, is that this is another stupid thought bubble from the party that brought you the Truss tax cuts and the PM who lasted less time than a lettuce.

Sunak's pretty much running this thing solo. The rest of the campaign has the energy of a dead sloth.

A leaked memo, which was accidentally sent to some MPs as an attachment to a general campaign email, named and shamed those who were refusing to knock on doors or had taken time off to attend family events.
The memo reportedly named Johnny Mercer, the veterans minister, saying that there was an issue with “MP co-operation with CCHQ”.
Sarah Atherton, the MP for Wrexham, was called out for “refusing to engage” and for trying to stop her campaign manager from running weekend sessions.
It came as it emerged that Steve Baker, the Northern Ireland minister, has jetted off to Greece for a holiday at the start of the campaign.

And he's officially lost/suspended another (retiring) MP who endorsed Reform to succeed her in Telford.

Also this tidbit - seems likely that the flood is going to overtop the sandbags anyway and inundate much safer ground if this is their strategy?

Under the plan, Tory HQ will pile the most resources into the 80 most marginal seats it holds and the 20 constituencies it is most likely to gain.

Someone should tell the Tories.....

After a decision pending for over a year and an investigation that finished months ago, Starmer is finally banning Diane Abbott from standing as a Labour candidate just before the final deadline.

No space for actual socialists in Labour when they're too busy embracing Tories trying to jump off the sinking ship.

The party knows it wont gain power in July so plans for national conscription are only raised as future policy so they wont hemorrhage any more traditional conservative votes or those considering voting for the reform party .

It just reeks of desperation and party out of ideas or meaningful policy .

My prediction of a narrowing in the polls has fallen flat given the latest polling, which sees labour extending its lead after a week of campaigning.
I mean who can forget the campaign launch, or his brewery visit, or holding a presser where the titanic was built, amongst other gaffs It has not been smooth sailing for poor old Rishi, but crack on old son...

Ooof.

This is going to be a bloodbath, isn't it?
