Why's that? he looks the sort of a player who would look forward to such a contest.

I remember a young Cesc Fabregas tearing Juventus apart in the Champions League.

I've changed my mind, I hope he plays has done well against chelsea in the past (for bolton).

Would love for him to take all his chances for once.

Similar age maybe but Cesc had about triple the amount of experience at that point than Wilshere has at the moment.

He has struggled in our toughest games against Sunderland and Liverpool.

But I do think Wenger is trying to bring him through the same way as he did with Cesc by giving him as many games as possible. He sees him as Cesc's replacement obviously. And interestingly, he's giving him more opportunity than he ever did with Rambo (in terms of starts).

Only positive from that performance is wilshere played well and got experience for future derbys.

Fabianski was good. He is unorthodox at times but did the job. Almost got a touch on the Alex strike but needed a sledgehammer not a fingertip to divert that away from goal.

And Song looked better as well. But that's because he never got the opportunity to venture too far forward.

If we were any chance, we had to get the first goal. Almost impossible to score against them when they sit back like that.

Squillaci was dodgy but TV gets r*ped by diddy anyway. Unless we have a pairing of a prime sol campbell and Samba he will always destroy us.

We should go for Samba. Wouldn't be over the top expensive, experience in premier league, can score goals and not afraid to take on the likes of Drogba and co.

All these reports of us having money to spend are stupid anyway, as if we'd spend any of it. Maybe 350,000 or something.

I really don't understand why no big clubs go for samba

Really impressed with Wilshere's performance, I like the idea of him pulling the strings from deep with cesc further up field. JET also looked good.

in regards to the talk on the EPL gameday board

Gibbs adds more attacking wise, does good one-two's and decent crosses. Clichy is quick as well but I don't see him do all that much attacking wise, he's better defensively. Clichy should be starting at the moment but Gibbs will take his place soon (talking a year or so not weeks). Wasn't bringing up Clichy because I thought he was bad, just talking about our defense in general.

I'd love to get Samba though, would Schwarzer come in January for a fee or would they want him for the rest of the campaign and let him go free at the end of the season? The szsszsszszszs guy looks the goods so someone of Schwarzer's age is understandable in targeting. Wouldn't complain if we got an Akinfeev though...but szszszsz would probably throw in a transfer request.

You must be easily impressed then. I don't think Wilshere really did much all game, and aside from a brief spell in the first 10 minutes of the second half he didn't offer anything in the way of creativity or incisive passing.

He's certainly not someone I see as being capable of pulling the strings in midfield against genuine opposition. Still on the bench in our best team for mine.

Clichy was our best. That's not really disputable.

Cant believe all the wanking people do over Theo Walcott when fact of the matter is Wilshere is gonna be the better player of the two. Hugely underrated young player. Go back to last year and look at his performances for Bolton to see. Just has that footballing brain which is fantastic for a player of his youth

Chamakh has been a beast in the air so far but hes lacked support from a real geniune strike partner. Playing Nasri next to him last night was terrible because Chamakh clearly needs someone with pace nearby. Only player hes constantly linked up with so far is Arshavin. Would wait to see how it goes when RVP returns to the side but given his injury proness it might be worth selling RVP and bringing in a more ideal partner for Chamakh (Darren Bent springs to mind)

Wouldnt be judging Wilshere entirely based on one outing vs Chelsea at Stamford Bridge... Clichy has improved alot over the past few years but hes still capable of the old brain fart that makes him look stupid in both attacking and defensive situations.

Gibbs is clearly a talented player and its gonna be a tough choice in 2 years time when you have to choose one of them to be starting LB for a loong time.

I'm impressed given his age he is 18 FFS he can not be expected to be bossing the likes of essien and mikel in midfield. He won a few tackles and was easily the best at retaining possesion and starting are attacking moves.

Begs the question: can we develop players and still contend for major titles while our rivals are playing established, world class players against them? Cesc was incredible at that age yet we still won nothing. Granted that Wilshere is playing ahead of Denilson and Rosicky on merit but can't expect him to be influential against the top few sides yet.

And as for the defence, I'm not sure it would have made that much of a difference in terms of the goals conceded. The midfield was at fault for giving the ball away (Song/Nasri).

The lack of incisiveness and goal scoring chances while so dominant in that situation is more worrying which has nothing to do with the defence.

Clichy has improved alot over the past few years but hes still capable of the old brain fart that makes him look stupid in both attacking and defensive situations.

He's gone backwards. He was arguably the best LB in the league in 07/08; he was terrific back then up until than infamous Birmingham game when we fell apart.

Wilshere was good. He's going to be a damn good player.

I thought you guys had your chances but wasted them. Can't believe Squid (?) missed from a metre out in the first minute of the game.

Sure, he might be good for his age, but he's still not good enough, and certainly not doing enough to earn plaudits given that he is playing first team football for Arsenal, not a development squad.

Diaby was far and away the best at retaining possession against Chelsea, having one of his good days, and Nasri did more to start and continue our attacking moves than anyone else.

Wilshere probably offered the least of all of our midfield in the game, though perhaps ahead of the yet again quiet but for one great strike Arshavin.

He might be something one day, but he's certainly not yet.
