There are always options to be explored;

James Rodriguez went to Everton on a 2 year + 1 extra loan option.
Thiago Alcântara went to Liverpool for initial £20 million.

Two players that would have instantly improved the squad.

The club seems reluctant to explore every option.

You are absolutely spot on. Should not have said "can target". We don't have other targets in the bracket, which is a massive failure of the administration.

Agree about exploring other options but those two examples you used are bad ones, James went to Everton cause of the manager and Thiago went to Liverpool cause they’re liverpool not much arsenal could do about either.

the problem has been they’ve just been unable to offload any players, majority of the clubs have been reluctant to spend this window

Just on this I think it is going to be a big 40 hours or however many hours are left in the transfer window with quite a few clubs swallowing their pride and making deals. Just need to look at PSG who in the space of two hours have apparently agreed deals for M.Keane(Everton), Joao Mario and Perriera from Porto having not been linked with any of them at all this transfer window. Similarly Bayern are supposedly agreed a deal with Roca and are after Bouna Sarr and Eric Choupo Moting.

Kolasanic for us is also apparently not with the team that potentially indicates his deal with Leverkusen is close to being completed.

As frustrating as it I think we have to simply wait to the final minute of the transfer window before throwing the toys out of the cot. We could be left red faced but I suspect there will be a lot of action in the transfer market and hopefully we are one of the more busier clubs.

Liverpool worked out what they need and who would fill the bill and went out and got them without any fuss. Arteta knows what he wants and who he wants but The Arsenal behave like wheeler-dealers. We are the Arthur Daley's of the Premier League.

"Ornstein: Arsenal’s bid to strengthen in central midfield looks set to end in disappointment. Hopes of signing Lyon’s Aouar were dashed over the weekend and barring dramatic late twist, the long-term pursuit of Thomas Partey will go the same way."

Edu has had a mare.

There is a real possibility that we may get Jorginho from Chelsea on loan. If that is the case, that will improve us a great deal. He always terrorises us when we play them and he is far more mobile, intelligent, a greater threat going forward and a lot more subtle in his brutality than the uncouth butcher Xhaka.

Would have loved Partey and I reckon we'll be in for him and the other lad Ooooaaarrr, next northern summer after we work on clearing out all the players Arteta doesn't need. It would be great, at the snap of the fingers, to clear out the dead wood and bring in what we need but it's no way as simple as that - it's a drawn out process but at least it's started.

We've improved defensively off the ball as we know, but we've only had 30 attempts on goal in 4 games, if that continues we're going on a long barren spell at some point during the season.

From Arseblog:

The Telegraph are claiming that Arsenal could try and take Thomas Lemar on loan from Atletico Madrid.

We've repeatedly flirted with the Frenchman in recent years, even going so far as to weigh up a £90m+ bid for the winger during Arsene Wenger's time.

Lemar has been at the Wanda Metropolitano since the summer of 2018 but things haven't really worked out for him. Last season he featured in 29 matches in all competitions and registered a grand total of 0 assists and 0 goals.

No chance this happens, another winger is the last thing we need, but funny to think a guy we were preparing to sell the farm for three years ago has fallen so far.
