The two are unrelated. Arsenal don't need to deal with Atleti. Triggering the release clause is done directly with LaLiga.

Yeah I get that. But we were trying (and failing) to negotiate with them earlier in the window - so that they'd have some money to spend themselves.

Now they will have 50 million sitting there doing nothing until the next window.

Will be interesting to see if Ozil plays more now we have Partey.
We can definitely cover his deficiencies better now, I suppose it will depend on how Mikel sets us up. In a 4-2-3-1 I can see him potentially occupying the traditional No.10 spot, in a 4-3-3 it may be more difficult to find a spot.

I still don't think he will feature though.

They have 30 days to purchase another player from La Liga I’ve read.

Saka - PEA - Pepe
Ozil
Ceballos - Partey
KT - Gabriel - Holding/Luiz - Bellerin
Leno

Subs: AMN, Laca, Willian, Xhaka, Rasmussen (sp?) and last two out of Saliba, ESR, Nelson, Willock and Eddie

Yeah hence why I feel it will be interesting whether he features. We aren’t creative enough and he would clearly bring that creativity whilst having protection now. He does work hard to (still a myth he doesn’t) so he could easily cover the passing lanes into midfield/mark their DM when we are in defensive phases.

Delighted we saved some face by adding Partey which was much needed. I'd probably only give us a 6/10 all up though as we didn't sign a creative player and nor did we rid the dead wood.

If we signed James instead of Willian, got Aouar from Lyon and rid the deadwood now that would have been a 10/10 window.

Anyways we need to cull 2 foreign players from a PL list of 25, I'm really hoping it's Sokratis and Cedric, Sokratis is like a 7th choice CB and Cedric a 3rd choice RB. Get the feeling it will be Ozil and Sok though but praying it's not.

Arsenal was never going to sign Partey and Aouar.

Is there still a possibility of Sokratis, Kolasinac etc being sold/loaned across the continent? I always get confused by the various closing dates of the English window compared to others.

Nope.

Pretty sure the only business that can be conducted is between English divisions i.e. Premier league clubs are allowed to buy Championship players and vice versa. At the very least the players can be loaned.

Arsenal was never going to sign Partey and Aouar.

Fairly confident that was the intention. If reports are to be believed Aouar brother (agent) is the reason the deal fell through as he asked for a massive agent fee which Edu told him where to stick it. The club has been way too confident and hasn't blinked at all despite all the concerns fans had. The Santi video they randomly uploaded the other day is the proof, not only was it a random thing to upload but to edit it the way they did meant it had some meaning. Arteta also never seemed frustrated during his press conferences and spoke glowingly about his relationship with Edu and the Kronkes and the club conveniently used the dismissal of gunnersauras on deadline days of all days.

Moving on. As for the clubs business in general I don't think the dominos fell like they were hoping. The likes of Sokratis, Kolasanic and Guendouzi should have all be sold and forgotten about yet all are still owned by us. Guendozui wages being off the books for this season isn't all that helpful given he isn't on a heap and if he has a good season he will only have 12 months left on his contract which doesn't give us a great bargaining position for next season. Would have been interesting to see what other business we could have done had we been able to deal these players elsewhere.

Had you asked me at the start of the window if I'd be happy with a window of Gabriel, Partey, Willian with Aubameyang and Saka re-signing the answer would have been an easy yes. In saying that we still have a number of holes in the team and it would have been nice if we could have landed Aouar to fill one of those especially given now is the best time to land him. The upside is we only have 89 days to wait until we can get another chance. I always look at transfer windows and trade periods on the basis on improving the spine and with Gabriel and Partey I believe we have done just that. These guys in theory should take the pressure of the guys alongside them that hopefully increase their level of performance. Which on this matter Im particularly interested to see the effect Partey has on our right hand side where the combination play has been awful for a long time.

I've got plenty more to say and will in due time but I wanted to finish by congratulating the club on the shithousery of not informing Atletico about paying Parteys release clause. Normally I would expect the club to be classy but given Atletico position on Partey all along that impacted on other deals we could have made they didn't deserve any common courtesies. They weren't willing to compromise early in the transfer window and only wanted money up front, they weren't willing to pay for Torriera or include an obligation to buy which is fine but don't ****ing complain when we go around you and sign your player who you were stupid enough to put a low release clause in his contract. We've ****ed ourselves by handing out shit contracts to average players and allowing good players to leave for too little in the past and clubs have been using this against so its about time we become campaigners and let other clubs know to not **** us around. This transfer window didn't solve all our problems and we still have a bumpy road ahead of us but I do think we are on the right road with Arteta in charge and the players he is starting to assemble.
