Went and saw the Roos v Melbourne today and came away pretty confident about next week. Melbourne are a good side as we saw last week, though took a while to get going today. They beat us by more than they beat the Roos, but that was because the Roos dragged the game down to a scrap. Kangaroos played negative footy and went very wide (Though Melbourne did too at times, except when they clicked into gear. Maybe its because of the wide wings at Manuka). The Roos forward line didn't look very potent. Grant probably looked the most dangerous today of their forwards and might be the one to watch out for given our poor form against the smaller forwards, though he's not as elusive as some of the ones that have caused us grief. Will be a much better match up for Newman than some of the pacier types he's had to play on. Corey Jones presented a target across half forward but seems to take two grabs each time e marks so gives a chance for a spoil. Big Sav has given us some grief in the past. Didn't do much today but spent some time on the bench and the delivery to him was pretty poor. I think Gaspar in his present form will have his measure.

If we get over North it will show a lot of spirit by the players coming off a disheartening 2 point loss. Even though we played with spirit on saturday the feeling of loss still lingers.

North are a good team capable of beating any team on their day. Sav Rocca will be our danger as he kicked 9 on us last year and I don't want him doing that this year. Our midfield is a little better then theirs at the moment but they can turn it on when they get into full throttle.

Hopefully their more disapointing players such as Drew Petrie and Daniel Wells won't decide to regain their form this week.

We seem to always hit north at this stage of the season and other than the blow out last year, is usually a competitive game where they get over the line. Becomes a must win for us as we can't afford to lose 3 in a row and get some 'negative momentum' if there is such a thing.

On a lighter note - this article from Puntroad.com last year was a cracker ...

Do you know of any Richmond supporters who ventured to the countries mentioned? Is north going to have some other reason to be fired up this year?

We need to do something we haven't done all year - play 4 quarters.
Can't afford another slow start like last week but we should have the kangas measure. Cover Wells, Grant and Harvey and they struggle.
And now for the 3rd big clique - Season defining for both clubs.

After watching that game on Fox yesterday, we will win thsi comfortably. The Kangas dragged Melbourne down to their standard for a a while but never looked like winning. People complain about Sydney but that was the most boring and dull game I have watched this year! All to a teeming crowd of 12,000 with how many thousand freebies? What a disgrace.

I will admit I am tipping the Roos, they are our bogey team, always have been (I can only remember beating them three times since I have been following footy - we are talking since the early to mid 90s).

on paper we have them covered, but the Roos are going to be seething after that pathetic game at Manuka, and I think they will find a way.

If I were Terry, I'd go the small forwardline again, because North seem to play the '3rd man up' game very well, bringing players like Troy makepeace and Jess Sinclair into the game.

If we win this week, I can confidently say we have turned the corner, because this is a game we should win. Sunday afternoon could be the defining moment in Richmond's 2005 season. if we win this, we could turn for home 9-4, and I sure as hell would have taken that in March.

dammit, I think I just talked myself into tipping us again...

I would be surprised if Richmond win. North are alot better than people think. We are the kanga's bitch. Have to win to make a down payment on finals

We have beaten then 4 times since Aug 97... and they have beaten us 7 times inc 3, 10 & 11 point wins and a couple of smashings.

Pretty spot on roo. Only danger I see is if we get dragged in to that sort of game our skill errors could hurt us. Need to make sure we keep bringing it into the corridor when we go forward and not get dragged out wide.

All Wells did on the weekend was pick up a few cheap kicks when they were chipping it around. From the bagging he's been getting on the Roos board I suspect it wasn't the first time this season.
