Great to hear about Dawes, but oh god I hope they don't put him in round 1 against the Dogs based off one VFL practice match, because his other pre season form has been pretty ordinairy.

That would be a career best day for Dawes though, even at VFL level I don't believe he has kicked more then 5 in a game.

He is vital to our long term success in my opinion, but still hasn't proven he is up to AFL senior level yet, although he will get more chances to do that this year.

Now for the "real" game, 4.30, 5AA, bring it.

I had Dawes down for 6 goals as I don't think he got his boot to the ball of a goal he ended up shepherding through. He also kicked 4 or 5 behinds.

Blair and Beams were good through the midfield.

Blight had some great moments , he just projects so well as an AFL prospect.

Shae doesn't know how to competently play forward yet , looked much better in the ruck , but understandably looks lost.

Rusling was OK on a back flank , it's a complete waste of time though. Forward or bust.

Buckley , Corrie , Barham, Cook played from our senior squad.

Others to play were Keefe , Rounds , Francis , Reed.

Average, had a lot of blokes that are trying to get spots in the VFL team.

Interesting that 5 blokes from our NAB squad played in the VFL, that only leaves us with 24 making the trip?

They had 12 AFL listed players playing. Trent West , Ryan Gamble (who went off injured) , Dawson Simpson , Nathan Djerrkura , Marcus Drum , Allen Christensen , Jeremy Laidler , Taylor Hunt , Joshua Cowan , Adan Varcoe , Ben Johnson and Jesse Stringer.

West , Johnson and Drum all had periods of manning Dawes.

Sorry guys, posting this from my phone... I texted my mate (Geelong fan) asking how Dawes' 7 goals were scored; he said most were strong marks one-on-one and there was a nice lead-and-mark in the last. So good signs anyway.

Thats great news if true TRS. Dawes very rarely takes overhead contested marks regardless of opponents. I'd say he'd have a fair size advantage on Drum and Johnson however and West is a ruckman. Still he can only play against who he is given.

Looked completely out of it and lost vs Richmond last week and his overhead skills left alot to be desired, yet he turns it on with a vintage display by reports in the VFL match.

We know he can dominate a VFL game- he has done it before- but he needs to do it at AFL level.

Hope he is not another Stanley where he is only good at VFL and Not AFL but I do think Dawes once he gets the Confidence he can impress at AFL level

He will play Next Week vs Coburg and if again plays well then he should play RD 1

My bro said exactly the same thing.

Although I do recall he had a calf injury of some kind.

Forgot to mention Steele is injured, he was in the crowd with his finger all taped up, although I don't think it will keep him out
