Swift superb again.

Rundown from the Swans v Tigers game:

Davis - normally very good when he comes back to Swans, maybe I'm a harsh judge, but he was good in bursts today. I do love his tackling though, when the player gets tackled they are always taken to ground.:thumbsu: When he injected himself into the game in the 2nd Swans got away from Claremont, but he couldn't keep this up all game. Decent game though.

Wilkes - not sure what the problem was today but he seemed to have overdosed on angry pills early. Intent on the man, not the ball. Started shaky but kept working to try and get in the game. Later in the game I think he was moved up the ground, probably to try and get him into the game more.

Swift - was everywhere, knows where to run to and how to get the ball. Being harsh again, but not sure his game was as standout, "god like" as the stats suggest. Did one brilliant pirouet out of an oncoming tackle on the outer wing in the second, I think, and you just held your breath. Kept running all day, but not sure he's up in front of others for a debut yet. He has a lot of classy signs there though.

McGinnity - the little nugget goes hard from start to finish, love that about him. Didn't get as involved as Swift, but don't think he ever will. Has very good pace and courage and set up a bit of play today.

Bedford - tbh, I thought he was the most impressive of the Eagles listed players today. When he got the ball he usually did something with it. Was also running with L Jetta in the second half (at least) and did quell his influence reasonably well.

The good sign is that all of the fringe players contributed though. Keeps pressure on the level above. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Also see Spangher was in best players for Easts, did anyone go and watch?

Maybe because he's not in the Eagles side? :p

Great to hear about Bedford's game. :thumbsu:

Cheers for the write-up. :thumbsu:

Many thanks swannies. What was the problem with Swift's possessions? Undamaging, or positive clangers? Inside or outside (generally speaking)?

Undamaging, but he was trying to do a mountain of work by himself, particularly in the first half. No real clangers, bar 1 OOF in front of me, but his team mate could have marked that inside the boundary if he had attacked the ball. He's both inside and out, but his inside work was better than his outside today, IMO. The kicks he got outside just didn't hurt Swans, I didn't think. But he did everything he could (along with M Carr) to get claremont back in to the game.

Thanks again. Really excited about Swift. Consistently making incremental improvement while showing glimpses of class that can't be taught. Don't particularly want to see him at AFL level yet though. Should be made to wait until he's really ready. Naitanui on the other hand...

Was bloody lucky not to have been rubbed out last week too.

As opposed to Stenglein; who has had one average game and one terrible game.

I'd prefer the youth policy on this one.

Stenglien brings a massive defensive presence, Houlihan is all run and outside receives, he'll have to dislodge one of our outside runners. Going to be tough to do.

Far out Swift is doing really well. Showing gradual improvement which is what we want to see.

No player since Judd has had me so excited. He just has that X-factor that you can't learn or teach.

No rush to get him in the team but I think we will see him this year at some stage. His development will be crucial to our rebuilding in the next few seasons.

Awesome?

Bit far, he's had two very good games in succession.

Was injured the week before that and brilliant the week before he got injured. Runs the lines well, depends on how much we need an outside midfielder, could come in for Stenglien.

Yeah, agreed on that one. You'd think if Stinger went out it would be for Cockie

What role did Bedford play (midfield/defence)?

Jordan Jones and Ash Arrowsmith played for Peel (team mainly composed of colts players) vs Australian (AIS-AFL) U17s @ Subiaco (C/R to the Fremantle game) - Peel were comfortably beaten by 50+ points.

Barely noticed Ash bar during the 3rd quarter where he ran it off HB handful of times. Either didn't get much opportunity or wasn't getting near it (wasn't following his game particularly closely TBH).

JoJo put in a solid, workman-like performance. He started in defence on Mitch Duncan IIRC (who didn't have much effect), didn't stand out himself, but linked up and rebounded soundly out of defence in his usual efficient, low risk style. Played some periods in the midfield in the 2nd half (won a couple of clearance without great effect) while also playing in defence - pushed forward to kick a goal and was involved in a very good passage of play where he rebounded the ball from defence then ran hard forward to take an unopposed mark I50 and laid it off to a teammate for a goal.

More midfield. But I did make the observation a few week ago that he looked good as the link man.
