We are resting Johnson?!

Read this in the paper yesterday, apparently we've decided to rest Johnson from the next domestic game?

Is this a ****ing joke?!

wasn't his problem his technique though?

IIRC he was kept in adelaide to work on that.

obviously he needs more tweaking in what's wrong with his technique perhaps?

i don't know if that's right, thats just my supposition.

Evedently, he will get better practice in the Nets?

Why is Tim Neilson still coach?

in his defense, apparently he wanted to play.

Not blaming him at all mate, I'm blaming the complete mongs we have calling the shots.

These are the same idiots who refused to let Bollinger play domestic cricket, and then didn't select him because he lacked 'match fitness.'

God I hate these clowns, Johnson isn't going to prove shit bowling in the nets - he's had more than a week to do that, get him out there and tell him to unleash!

Yes.

How can you be confident 'technical issues' have been addressed if you dont see them in the game. This could be the most token dropping ever.

Crazy decision. Wonders if he was actually dropped last Test and not just rotated.

Not playing him in the domestic competition hurts the team in 2 ways. There's a thread about the current level of our Shield players. Not having batsmen face Johnson (although in poor form) won't improve their game, and is also not allowing him to get some much needed confidence.

Wouldn't the people working with him in the Adelaide nets be the same people who helped screw up his action?

If a week or two in the nets was enough to fix him why wasn't he fixed between the indian series and the gabba?

bingo. and a cuppla sessions in the nets with trooley isn't going to suddenly give him more mental fortitude than a 13 year old emo chick.

if this backfires it could be a long time between drinks for him

Nielsen has said that Johnson has the potential to be the Aussies Ashes saviour. Am I missing something, or is this the same freaking bowler who bowled 0/170 odd just over a week ago and hasn't done ANYTHING since? I'm completely staggered, what a joke Nielson and co are, do they have a set of brains between them?

Indeed, With the profile of this series and johnson creeping towards 30 i would say this has gone from being a speedbump to do or die for johnson.

If he had gone away and worked at domestic level he could have made a comeback next season but by gambling on him now they are basically risking his whole career, failure in the next couple of tests would surely end his test career.

It's a big gamble and unfortunately it appears to be based more on desperation and hope than realistic work done on his bowling.

Only if he doesn't start bowling well again. If he starts taking wickets consistently and with the current lot of fast bowlers hardly covering themselves in glory there will be plenty of opportunity to get back in again.

they rest him more than they play him. if he wants to play this next test. i will say this to him. mitch don't listen to a word troy cooley says. he will be the downfall of your career. just go out and bowl fast

I'd show him the footage of him tearing the Saffers apart, and tell him, "Mitchy, get out there, bowl as fast as you can, and try and hurt people."

Potential the key word.

Johnson at his peak is about the only way we'll win the ashes.

Apparently this was Neilsen's decision.

It wouldn't surprise me.

Mitchell Johnson needs to bowl a lot, so they would rest him.

I hope Cooley bucks the trend and actually has a positive effect on him because as far as I have seen, he appears to be helping a talented player become a thorough going plodder.

They showed him on Fox Sports News bowling in the nets at a local ground with Lillee and Cooley advising.

I have no idea how well Johnson responds to the pressure of thinking that he is the only one that can win the Ashes for Australia. After all, he's never been in this situation before...... oh.

The decision to rest Johnson is weak and unprofessional. During the 1980s, all the West Indian fast bowlers of any note all played county cricket when not involved in international duties. Some played county cricket more regularly than others, but, with this format in place, they managed to go undefeated in a Test series for 15 years. This particular achievement is of course one specific statistic, but the Windies players were still allowed to earn the county cash, probably today's equivalent of earning Twenty20 big bucks. They were able to have fruitful and lengthy careers without there being concern that they needed constant resting.

There was also Allan Donald, Richard Hadlee, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Chris Cairns as other pace bowlers who played regular county cricket, were available for their country and had lengthy careers.

What is the adjective for sissy?

This, needed to bowl in a match situation and get his rhythm right.

Would a player in Johnson's situation be allowed to ignore the request to rest and actually play in the Shield game? What would be the ramifications if he did so?
