In your experiences with children, have you ever encountered a kid who was terrified of something really strange? This can be a younger sibling or cousin when you were growing up, the kid of a friend or relative, your own kid, a childhood friend, or even yourself as a child.

For example, a lady I used to work with in the early/mid 1990s had a small daughter who was absolutely petrified of Barney the Purple Dinosaur. She was terrified of Barney in any form; the TV show, photographs of Barney or Barney merchandise. The last point caused problems one Christmas when one of her cousins received a Barney soft toy! The girl would be in her late teens by now; presumably she has overcome her Barney phobia but no doubt her parents enjoy telling the story to her friends and boyfriend!

I was always afraid of the monster under the bed, petrified.

I knew a kid who was literally petrified of black people. Any age, size, shape, gender... didn't matter. Sometimes I wonder how his life turned out. I'm tipping he either joined the KKK or ended up marrying a darker skinned person...

I don't know how weird that is depending on what part of the world you're from, but Melbourne is a bit strange I'd think.

There was also another one that was afraid of uniforms. School uniforms, costumes, police, military... everything.

I was afraid of cows.

LOL

Just remember, they're more scared of you. Wait, that's snakes.

After watching The Wizard of Oz, I was so scared of the Wicked Witch that my Dad left a glass of water beside my bed (to liquidate her).

I was/still am afraid of cockroaches.

But strangely, I was afraid of a song. Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings.

My 3 year old cousin is afraid of me. I don't know why but when I look at her or in her general direction she starts to cry. Could it be my face? Could it be the aura that I emit? What other viable possibilities are there?

I know a kid who is scared shitless of Funniest Home Videos... No idea why but even saying the name makes her cry.
My little cousin a couple of years ago was completely scared of channel 9 because of this. When channel 9 was on TV he use to leave the room incase he saw a funniest home videos ad. This was when he was about 4-5.

Probably the wierdest phobia i have ever seen /heard of.

I remember as a youngster a mates cousin hiding behind the couch when the guy with the big nose was looking for kids in chitty chitty bang bang.

Apparently it lead him to be afraid of anyone with a big nose.

Which was ironic considering their religion.
