12 months is the usual recovery time and I wouldn't be rushing him, will probably play a game or two for our ressies around weeks 2 or 3, with the aim to play AFL around week 4 or 5. Gives the likes of Jenkins, Otten, Lynch and Johnston a chance to prove their worth.

Would be surprised if it was round 1 imo expect about round 7 or 8 if there are no set backs along the way. He is doing everything right atm. Usually with serious knee injuries it's 12 months before you play at the highest level again and would think he might play a month in the ressies to gain some match fitness.

Hoping round 1 but expecting round 5 or 6. I think I read he was ahead of schedule with his recovery too but I may have drempt that

It all depends how rehab goes and how quickly his knee adapts, strength builds and so on.. Everyone is different, sometimes it's more around 11 months, even 10.. Sometimes the full 12, can even go over 12.. Libba came back after 3-4 months, remarkable even though he's a little man..

Between round 4 and 8 I think. Did his knee in Round 5 and it was a pretty bad ACL injury too, so he'll still miss the first month at least you'd think.

There's no real "good" or "bad" ACL, it's either torn and requiring surgery, or it's not, unless he damaged other structures badly, like broke his leg Hentshel style. The 12 month recovery time is only due to the nature of the surgery and the time it takes for the hamstring graft to adequately grow into the bone and secure itself.

I guess we will know the club is panicking about next year if he's in round one. Give him as long as is needed, Tex is worth far more to us and for his own health than just chasing a few extra wins in the first few rounds.

I hope the club does enough in the pre-season to prepare for a season without him, because we don't know how good he will be next year, anything is a bonus really.

give Walker 4 SANFL games to build confidence at lower paced games

4 SANFL games v another year off potentially

I think he'll play round 1, with a couple of light games under his belt in the pre-season.

You do know SANFL player have knee injuries?

The pace of the game was not the reason for his knee injury. If his knee is structurally sound, his joints are solid and muscles are fine - he can play at any level without any worry.

It's about developing confidence in his knee and then he will know it won't buckle under him.

He will prove his fitness at training and come straight bak in. Not expecting to play reserves.

He injured his PCL as well I think, that's what I was referring to.

No medical knowledge here but I think from what I remember reading when it was reported you can stretch the allograft if you return too early leaving it longer than it should be. But I am sure others know far more than I do.

He'll play SANFL .....for the reason you outlined

AFL is not for easing back in .....and he won't play PS games

Just WILL NOT HAPPEN .....bookmark it

Modra did his ACL in the 1997 PF came back after 9 or 10 months I think and never had another serious injury. No need to rush Walker back, probably midseason. But for sure he could play the first game of the year, we'll see how he progresses.

No injury to the PCL not that it would have effected his long term recovery particularly much, http://m.afc.com.au/news/2013-04-29/lars-not-an-option-for-injured-walker, the initial hope was that it was just a PCL, but MRI showed PCL to be intact. A little damage to the lateral side of the knee, although the article doesn't say wether it was ligamentous, cartilaginous or bony, either way shouldn't affect his recovery 12 months down the track.

Such damage to either the lateral or medial compartments of the knee is common with ACL's, it's rare to damage both ACL and PCL though.

He could probably play now if he wanted, just the risk of re rupture would be massive. All about balancing risk, after 11-12 months the graft is close to as strong as its going to get, earlier than this starts to get a little risky.

Lateral ligament was torn, not a big deal really in terms of length of time out.. The lateral ligament was the one they obtained from a deceased person.. ACL was the common method, a piece of Walker's own hamstring tendon..

Will we have Jenkins and Lynch back by round 1? If not we are missing our best 3 forwards at the start of the season.

Tex will return early next year and play a few reserves games. If his form looks good i'm sure he will be back in the tri colours provided he has no setbacks upon returning
