Where will we finish next year?

However, most of the games lost are from players who were not a part of our "best 22" for most of the season, so our "best 22" will be more experienced than it was this year.

Exactly.

in 12 months time, hopefully coming into 2014 finals, our best 22 should have about 400 more games in their nut sack.

I think will make the eight next year however it's the few years after that I fear for.
These are the years when our 1st and 2nd round picks from 2012 & 2013 and the players we should have picked up for the Tippett trade would be slowly coming through and improving our list massively.
Next year and the year after we will be a competitive team after that I not so sure.
The one bright light we have is that Trigg is going to give the club every resource we need to make it successful....bar low draft picks but not shallow statements.

Could finish the home and away season from 1st to 12th position next year depending on circumstances. Goodbye footy park.

We will get a softer draw next year because of our ladder position this year so I think we will 'spike' which will be great, finish 7-8 and be making up the numbers like usual. But if they get fit then it may be a different story

This year sux in terms of wins, game style (watching it in particular ) and ladder position, but it has been mistake city this year (and the last couple as it turns out).

Good thing is I def reckon Sando will learn from it.

I think even Trigg will learn from his.

Mistakes are fine (though they suck as stated above) as long as you take the lessons from them. I doubt we will go so bad next year as this*. *Futures are hard to predict though!

Im also not so concerned about missing out on the young talent. (As an aside, I'd rather we didnt trade up to good picks this year - imagine what you could do next year if we had a good pick plus added whatever sacrifice we're willing to make this year, doesnt it make more sense to think that way??) We have a tonne of young players out there this year, we're regularly the 4th youngest team in the comp, yet we're going ok*. *ok for the fourth youngest team in the comp - who made mistakes with preseason and fitness and selection and administration** - who is missing its key forward - arguably one of the top 3 in the comp - we'll prolly finish just outside of finals.

**If you ask some people we also have the worst ruckman, worst captain, worst club champion from the previous year (Thompson) and worst AA squad player from last year (Reilly), worst ex Rising Star finalist (Otten), several of the worst midfield rotation and some of the worst skills and worst tactics in the AFL.

Most agree that our young players need more game time. We have some very talented youngsters not in the side at the moment (Kerridge/Grigg/Shaw) and one very very talented youngster to come back in (Walker), and yet we cant even give young players the game time they need now!! And we need more!??! We dont need to phase out any of the oldies any faster than natural attrition or we end up Melbourne.

Will this year be the year of the mistakes we needed to have?

The second Walker went down we shot down the ladder atleast 4 places. Could have quite easily seen us sneak over the line against Hawthorn, Freo, West Coast and possibly even one or two of the Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond games. Those few extra goals he would have given us would go a long way, as well as letting Danger spend longer in our struggling midfield, give Jenkins more of a chance with the 2nd defender as well giving our forward line and entry some structure.

Hopefully in 2014 we dont have injuries where it hurts, and if all is good we should see ourselves 6-8th (an easier draw won't be to bad either).

God only knows what will happen next year.

I mean, let's look at this year - our best players from the year before are down significantly, or injured completely - walker, danger, thommo, radar.
The group of 23 y/o guys we were hoping would step up have not - Mackay, Otten, Janesch, Wright, Jenkins, etc (VB, Hendo)
The real seniors on the list suck so bad they are getting delisted - Johcock, Tambling, Callinan.

The only good thing to come out of it is some great form from the real young-uns in patches at least - Kerridge, Lyons, Crouch, etc.
So there we go. You'd have to say we are waaaaay waaaaaay down on form... across the board.

We *could* possibly fix all of that, and gun it up to a premiership. We could get worse.

The variability is humongous, I have no idea what to expect next year.

If we improve tackling and fitness we should see better results next year, also a new captain I think would be better.;)

I'm going to be optimistic here and predict a top 2 finish because of two reasons.

One: everything that could of gone wrong has this season and we are what 11th? most sides have the same bad luck we have had would of gone out without a whimper... well we are whimpering at the moment and that is without a good preseason, losing both of our key forwards, no good tactical coaches etc.

Two: How our youth has come along, i mean every kid that has put on the jumper has looked like he belongs in this level.

we've been playing 2 midfielders down most weeks with Thompson injured and VB only contributing when tagging the wrong guys. If this is fixed you'd think we'd improve.

Oh and the old perennial goalkicking - its amazing how the same plays look so much better when the end result is a goal and not a point. Doubt we'll improve this tho.

I look at the Crows is the 2006 faze of the Geelong Dynasty.
In 2005 the Cats were a kick away from a Prelim, thanks to Nick Davis.
2006, everyone expected the young Cats to get bigger and better, but missed the finals finishing 10th.
2007, after the disappointment of 2006, knuckled down and won the flag.

Quite a few similarities to what we have done.
Im not saying win the flag. But would expect us to finish in the top 4, with a brand new desire.

Geelong were good in 2003 & 2004 though

Not really the same

I would say 13th. I don't think we have the talent to be top 8. Unless we have a good pre season and gain momentum.

And last pre-season champion data rated Port with the worse list

We have the talent just need to get experience into them

A more experienced defence would be good for us, and Truck has to step up as the leading Back player and show the young ones how it's done and guide them.

What?

Our defense has probably been our strongest area this season and i think Truck has done a very good job.
