Will Essendon win the Flag ?

Essendon are almost certainly not a top 4 team. They will final. They won't be in the GF.

Good work going on there and its good for the game to see them up and about but they are nowhere near good enough to win big games in succession when the chips are down.

In summary most neutrals think they are a chance but bombers fans don't ?

Bombers are strong favorites and I will go on record as saying I believe they will beat the eagles comfortably, when they do will the bombers fans then admit they are a chance ?

Wow, what great belief in your own team! Respect :thumbsu:

Moron...

Umm no. We've got a couple of danger games coming up. That will give me an idea as to how we are travelling this year. Should make finals but not top 4. The teams who have finals experience will win the flag.

Glad it wasn't an Essendon supporter who started this thread. Getting ridiculous imo.

We're a long way off wining a flag. We're not even a top 4 team imo. I think 5th or 6th would be our level.

I think the reaction to our performance on the weekend has been a bit over the top. In all honesty if we're a finals team we should beat Brisbane comfortably which we did. I'd expect most teams who will play finals to deal with Briabane comfortably.

I think we're a chance. Building a good side. Long season though and anything can happen, and most Bomber supporters are confident without wanting to fall into the honeypot :)

No I don't believe they will win the premiership in 2012.

I said at the start of the year that I expect Essendon to feature in September. I've not wavered from that, in fact my opinion on the matter has strengthened given their good start to the season.

I do think they are giving themselves every chance of finishing not only in the 8, but in the top 4. Whether or not they get there is, of course, another story...but the appearance of this season as a relatively even one means they remain a strong chance for the top 4. And I suppose from there, anything can happen.

I don't expect them to continue to win without stumbling at some stage, I don't think anyone does. Every team struggles at some point throughout a season, and Essendon will not be an exception to that. I do expect them to drop off but not significantly enough to cost them a finals berth.

At the start of the year I said they'd finish in a position similar to last year, somewhere in the bottom half of the top 8. That still probably looks the most likely result for them.

I hate Essendon with a passion, and not much would please me more than to see them miss out on playing finals. But credit has to be given when it is deserving, and IMO Essendon's performance thus far in 2012 deserves respect, more-so than is being afforded to them by most.

They are the form Victorian side playing great football with clearly good depth.
How are they the form Victorian side? I don't understand? Why isn't Collingwood and Geelong the form Victorian side?

Collingwood played alot better than to just beat them and they are welcoming back shitloads of players

I would say they are the form Victorian side

I have to admit I didn't see them coming on so fast but players like crameri, Hurley, Stanton, bellchambers, heppel are turning into genuine superstars they are on track to finish top four and if they do watch out.
Crameri had a day out against us, but I don't think he's looked any better than last year

Hurley has definitely not looked any better than last year

Bellchambers is doing what he showed he can do last year, however now actually getting time game

Heppell was the rising star last year for a good reason

I think their biggest improvers have been Stanton, Davey, Lonergan and Jetta playing the way he was early last year. But I think it's been Ryder who has elevated his game to an A grader consistently that has seen the biggest rise in performance. He has played games where he has dominated rucks, and even when he's not doing so, his effort around the ground has been top grade

Surely they have to be considered legitimate flag threats??
Going by face value, they have played as good footy as anyone in the comp, but the difference is they are spending alot to get there. With the really heavy pre-season, the big injury list, injuries during the games and breaks between games, I think they are spending alot of gas very early. This will help them make the finals and possibly even top 4. However to win the flag, I think they will be out of petrol to fully achieve it

Carlton are current flag favorites and essendon tore them to shreds, they have to be considered a legitimate threat, no ?

I think that says more about the fact that Carlton shouldn't be flag favourites - far too easily bullied.

Essendon are very unlikely to finish top four. I think what they should be aiming for is a home final and a win this year.

I suspect as of next year they will be legitimately pushing for a flag.

There's a team called Geelong... They're ok, I reckon they could surprise a few though.

There's a team called Hawthorn...They're pretty good too, they could surprise a few also.

Then there's a team called Collingwood

Then there's a team called Carlton...They are pr!cks, but there not too bad.

Then there is West Coast,

Then there is Sydney.

Then there is Essendon.

2014 is the year.

In my opinion, Essendon are the Hawthorn of 2007.

They will finish 5th/6th, and likely go out in the Semi Finals.

2013/2014 is when they will make their mark with the current 'BIG' teams. (West Coast, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong).

Answer to the OP is: NO.

And West Coast should win this weekend. If they loose then they wont win the premiership because they will have to play a better team than Essendon in Melbourne if they want to win a GF.

Hmmm, hopefully west coast will have a much stronger team come September I would like to think the following ins would make us a stronger side but I take your point.

Nicoski, Schofield, Hams, Kennedy, Embley, Smith

It seems like most of the disrespect is coming from the bombers fans themselves calling this a troll.

Most people would agree that any side that finishes top 4 is a legitimate flag chance, a lot of people are saying bombers on current form will finish top 4 but they are no flag threat ?, that doesn't wash with me, home ground advantage which they may very well have is an enormous factor especially if sydney, west coast, adelaide etc make the finals.

If essendon could finish top 4 or top 2 and somehow manage to play 2 finals in Victoria and then come up against an interstate side in the GF, they are serious threats.

I believe Geelong are still the best team in the comp and will show that come September but Essedon have shown they can beat them even when geelong are at full intensity.

In the course of about 18 months, a full-strength West Coast suddenly looks a very daunting fixture.

the media have moved to essendon this week, they have had a different team each round then a big footy thread follows.

There is obviously reason to back the dons as top 4 and therefore a flag chance, but anyone who does (especially in the media) make the prediction and stick with it beyond a week please

Very true. Matthew Lloyd two weeks ago was calling for Ess to tank Vs Carl. On Sunday he was boasting on the footy show that we were top 4 material and a flag threat. It's not just him..but seriously all of this discredits the men in the media if there was any credit left to begin with..

Grain of salt stuff.

Yeah, that's pretty much nonsense and if you make top 4 you've given yourself the best opportunity to win a flag. You should never get there and just stick the thumb up and say "Well done to us."

But then I think that the idea of Essendon being top 4 lock is also nonsense. We've got a bunch of teams that have only lost once - we might even see the Top 4 dictated by percentage this year, who knows? I don't even think this talk is necessarily warranted if (if) we can hit the bye with a good stockpile - I'd have to see some strong interstate performances and good showings against the likes of Hawthorn and Geelong to start to think otherwise.

Wont be a premiership threat unless they can prove themselves outside Victoria

Oh wait that type of logic is saved only for interstate sides:confused:
