Okay we have had the debate on who we would choose if Monfries and Wood were still around with pick 8, lets have a vote and see who thinks we need a midfielder more than a ruckman! :p

At this particular time in this particular draft.........coming from where we are as a club in terms of personnel going forward.....I'm in the ruckman camp
Agree most strongly. If Wood is available, grab him.

I have voted for Monfries because I think that with the current rules, ruckmen are over rated. I beleive that as long as they give an honest physical contest and give your midfield a 50/50 shot at it you are doing ok. Ground play is more important.

I can't remember if it was 2002 or 2003, but Collingwood came last for hitouts & 1st for clearences.

To be honest all I want, tall or short, is someone who will play 200+ games & win a couple of b&f's. Not much really.

Yer hitouts are overated unless the ruckman is a true pro and taps it down the throat everytime. Then its a huge advantage. IMO u could win with no ruckman at all...

That aside, we should go for Monfries with #8 (assuming he is still there of course). Jordan Lewis is another player who I rate very highly.

RooDog can you compare Wood to a modern day player for me. Is he a Spider Everitt type player or more of a Matthew Clarke??

St Kilda did it this year...

its pretty hard at his age, it depends how much he develops nody wise, at the moment body wise he is very raw and thats why i rate him so highly, to play league and by all accounts play reasonably well and impress your coach like he did is a very goor effort. He was telling me a few weeks ago to be the size of someone like a charman he needs to put 22kgs on.. the doctor though has told him he has the capability to put 35kgs which would be to much. I would almost say he has better skills than any of the ruckmen in the AFL at the moment already, he use to paly on the ball occasionally at under 15s level so he has a huge tank too... but i dont know who id compare him too... no one probably!

I don't think Wood will get to pick 8, but I would probably opt for a quality midfielder B4 the ruckmen unless you knew he was going to be a superstar.

The fact he is not in the top echelon of draft picks (top 6 fancies) suggests he's not seen as a superstar - so a midfielder.

Cheers! You have massive wraps on him.
Going by what you've said he'll more than likely be gone before we can get our hands on him as Richmond, Hawks & Bulldogs all need ruckmen!

Hawthorn with 3 picks b4 us need a ruckman - either Wood or Deluca, but Richmond and Bulldogs also need bigmen?

Richmond have told him they wont be using their first two picks on him but are keen, so this may change. Doggies wont draft him they will go for a KPP and a quick midfielder first apparently, the danger for us is the hawks, they will probably take him. i know clarkson is a big wrap for him!

Riddler: i have been watching him since he was 13yr old and kicked 10 goals in 2 1/4s and played the last 1/2 at full back! he domintaed that day and continued to from there on! he has confidence in himself which DT and Stiffy have pointed out to me is a good thing. The kid is a massive talent, id love him at the crows!

The question will be homegrown (Deluca) V interstater (Wood)
Won't surprise that the first ruckmen picked will be Deluca because the bottom 3 clubs are all Victorian

me either!

but i dont think richmond will go for one with their 1st 2 picks... and hawks will take deluca or maybe even meeson with their first picks... with griffen, deledio, tambling, franklin, roughhead and maybe willets, or maybe even a monfries, then i can quite easily see Wood slipping to 8 and us getting our greasy hands on him :D Wallace originally said they werent going to take a ruckmen to pick 20 to him... that has probably changed now with Ottens leaving, but we can only hope its not until one of picks 12 or 16 :p

spot on, but i think even more so that unless he is top 2 projection, he's not a superstar - and thu she is a complete crapshoot.

fact is unless you are a junior superstar, you have as much chance being a bust as a hit.

I voted other becuase I want us to take the best available player. Whether thats a ruckman, midfielder or KPP is irrelevant IMHO. We need bit of everything and as such we need to pick the best available.

I am sure that with Stewart's and Fantasia's knowledge who ever we pick up with pick 8 has the potential to be 200 game player for us.

I think we can survive for some years with our current lot of midfielders and there are always midfielders available in any draft. We do have some ruck options that have a good number of years left and a couple of kids that might make the grade but we seriously lack key position players and I think we should take the best KPP available at pick 8. While we have a couple of players who are servicable in the key positions we do not have a dominant KPP in any position and this years draft has been recognised as the best for KPP for many years. It would be fantastic to have a Scarlett or Brown type player dominating at the Crows.

Kenny McGregor is still only 23. We have Rutten, Watts and Hentschel as the 3 young KPP that have the potential to be out and out stars. Give them time and they will come good. Add in an injury free Krueger at FF and we potentially have a VERY damaging spine.

totally disagree! our spine is looking okay!

rutten at FB
McGregor at CHB
Watts at CHF
Hentschell FF/CHF
Welsh FF
Basset can fill in at FB
Hart can fill in at FB
dare i say it craigys fave Bock(cringe

so we dont really need a KPP

we need a ruckman with Clarke at 31, Biglands at 28 and Hudson 26, we need a replacement with pick 8 or 24! then we need midfielders to replace goodwin, mcleod, riccuito and edwards, we only really have reilly and thompson coming through that are going to be absolute guns to replace them. SO we stack up with a ruckman or 2 and 2-3 midfielders i think!

Can Stewart have any input into this years draft?

Is he still contracted to Port and when does it expire - heard that Port were going to be strict on what Stewart can/can't do since he left for Crows?

Your accessment on last years form is OK.

But this time last year you were calling for Rutten to be delisted.
What happens if these lads don't come on as expected, or even a couple, the cupboards a bit bare after them.

Still think we're a couple of good KPP shy IMO ;)
