Worst player you've ever seen?

Going one better, Aaron O'Brien managed 49 Shield matches averaging 56 with the ball. To be fair, he did score a FC century at some stage, but he was very no-rounderish and it's a bit puzzling why he was given so many chances with two states.

He didn't really play that many games, but Scott Coyte was aggresively mediocre across the six years he spent in and around the NSW and Sydney Thunder squads.
Two very good nominations here.

Came in here to mention Coyte!

Hilton Cartwright

And to point out the dogshit ignorance of this post.

Surely the only acceptable answer is here is former Queensland no-rounder Chris Simpson. 5+ years at shield level doing absolutely nothing of worth with bat or ball.

Or his modern day clone Jason Floros.

Simpson at least was a pretty good captain. One of those guys who would have benefited had the advent of T20 been a little earlier given his skillset. That said he was the epitome of a cricketing bitser at shield level.

Well to be fair I've only seen him 1 time so it might be unfair.

I feel like he was lucky to get a shot at the test team, considering he only got 2 first class centuries. He was woeful on a flat track GABBA wicket, scoring 13 off 17. I also feel he only got games at WA through his networks from Wesley College. Silver spooner.

People were talk up Cartwright as an all-rounder but he doesn't have the statistics to back him up.

His gentle medium pacers do not warrant a position at number 6. I despise Mitch Marsh but he makes himself look like 'Jacques Kallis' when compared to Cartwright. From what I heard of reports in the 5th test match, Steve Smith was reluctant to use Cartwright because he didn't have any confidence in him.

I'll also say another thing I don't think he will get a test spot within the next 5 years. He will be a 1 test wonder. Bookmark this thread and I'll be happy to eat humble pie if he gets selected.

His bowling is clearly trash and should be forgotten by all.

He is just a batsman who has done reasonably well at Shield level when he has played. There is his chance as a no 6 bat.

Being a good captain is one thing but averaging 21 with the bat and 69 with the ball screams 'ordinary'.

His T20 record is better but that doesn't explain Queensland making him Shield captain.

That flat track GABBA wicket saw Perth score 156 and defend it with absolute ease. Only Klinger got going.

I find it interesting the number of players from NSW named. Some of them are more mediocre players than worst player you have ever seen nominations but is amazing how long they persist with some average players given the strength of their grade comp.

Both teams underscored at the ground. Perth Scorchers bat badly first up. They should have made alot more. Brisbane are a 2 man train with Lynn and McCullum.

Just in case your wondering, there have been 21 BBL games at the GABBA, with the average being 171.

The Scorchers are great as a team but they are a top heavy bowling side and its that side of the game that won them most games.

I don't want to hate on Cartwright.

Interesting little statistic? The Perth Scorchers total of 50 runs in the last 6.4 overs at the GABBA on January 11 against Brisbane Heat, was the 2nd lowest ever total batting those last 40 balls at that ground. (Cartwright accumulated alot of the strike in those final overs). The average score in those last 40 balls in BBL at the GABBA is around 63 runs. I watched that game, and have watched many T20 fixtures at the GABBA, its usually a batting paradise. One thing is clear about Cartwright, he ain't a Twenty20 player either. He doesn't seem to me to have the power to hit out against quality attacks. He only has a strike rate of 103.54% coming in down the bottom.

People saying Cartwright have no eye for talented batsmen, his bowling is severely average that is true but there's no reason why he can't bat at 6 in the future and be successful there, very organised and technically correct with a decent amount of power.

You might not rate Cartwright but this is not the thread to be doing it. There is no way he is one of the worst cricketers ever seen. He averages 44 with the bat in first class cricket and 42 with the ball. There's nothing wrong with that as a batting all-rounder.

Without a doubt, the worst bowler I have ever seen is Trent Lawford. Also, there was a bloke who played a game for the Redbacks (debuted with Travis Head) who was a leggie, Cameron Williams aka. the bloke from Cricket superstar. He could not land one and from memory went at around 10 an over.

Likewise Nathan Adcock of the same era as Simpson.

Worst XI that I've seen play:

1. Nic Maddinson (Aus/NSW/Sixers) - most overrated player; didn't deserve a baggy green, and didn't deserve a second or a third chance either
2. Meyrick Buchanan (Renegades) - played only 1 match, 64.70 strike rate
3. Dom Michael (TAS/Hobart) - More ducks than runs
4. Daniel Smith [wk] (Sixers) - Overweight; only averaged 13.02 runs from 61 T20s
5. Alex Keath (VIC/Stars) - couldn't bat or bowl; changed spors to AFL
6. Jake Doran (TAS/Thunder) - can't bat, can't keep
7. Jason Floros [c] (QLD/Brisbane) - Only 3 wickets in 26 T20s, and a bat ave of 15.85
8. Tim Armstong (Perth) - just like everyone else, couldn't bat or bowl
9. Chris Sabburg (Heat) - Specialist fiedler
10. Trent Lawford (Adelaide/Renegades) - Overweight, can't bat, can't bowl
11. Ben Oakley (Adelaide) - Career best bowling stats of 0/50

Tim Armstrong! How could I forget that name, pretty sure him and Tom Triffit got in trouble after a night on the piss.
