Inspired by the go-to movies thread.

What are your top tier, tried and true TV comedies? The ones you keep returning to over the years, and were there for you through the good times and the bad?

My top 5 is:

Seinfeld
Peep Show
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Brooklyn 99
Bojack Horseman

May have cooked Seinfeld for life sadly, with easily 10+ full watch throughs. The others still have a little bit of juice in them.

What makes your TV comedy hall of fame?

archer
first ~5 seasons are a bit of a magnet for rewatching, later seasons not as enthused but some good in there. last couple of seasons haven't even been on my radar but hopefully get a look at eventually. some of the running gags are great (ray being paralysed end of each season), some wear thin eventually. favourite episode which i always rewatch would be 'man from jupiter', the one with burt reynolds dating archer's mum.

red dwarf
another which i don't have the time of day to have watched completely but have thrashed the early seasons. can't remember the name of my favourite episode, the backwards one, very much reminiscent of the fun i had reading one of the adapted books, 'better than life'.

life's too short
ricky gervais/office documentary on warwick davis.
any awkward british stuff is great (coupling, other stephen merchant)

Here's a couple that I love, which I haven't seen anyone mention yet -

Psychoville, by the British comedy group the League of Gentlemen. This is basically the same as the League of Gentlemen, but even darker and even funnier which takes some doing.

And Corner Gas, a Canadian sitcom about a middle-aged bloke running a petrol station in a remote Canadian town, and his gang of oddball friends.

Both of them are brilliant, and I can highly recommend them!

Watched the first season of The Inbetweeners based on some comments in here. Has aged pretty badly with the constant gay jokes but a good easy watch (and basically how we spoke in high school to be fair).

Also if I did this exercise 15 years ago my top 5 would probably read something like this:

South Park Seasons 3-13
Seinfeld
Community
Simpsons 3-8 (still classic)
Party Down
The Mighty Boosh

Still have love for these shows but you can only watch so many times

Fawlty Towers
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Open All Hours
Mother & Son (original)
Yes Minister/Prime Minister
Spaced
The Lucy Show
Coupling
Catastrophe
Get Smart!
There She Goes

Oh... and any Dame Edna TV show...
