Next years bolter

Surely you are not delusional enough to believe that the Hawthorn players didn't party a little bit too long and hard after thir GF win?

Some of them looked like they hadn't stopped drinking since GF night.

If they had you would of thought the media would have been all over it because if they were celebrating that long and hard then surely they would have been caught out and about - or maybe they just sat around in the loungeroom to celebrate. The only instance that I can recall in the media was when the hawk boys went to the races and the geelong boys went to some swim through - feel free to post your proof though.

Hodge, Lewis and Franklin all underwent the same type of shoulder surgery - Lewis and Hodge both in December - recovery time is 12 weeks before resumption of full training can commence - work out the timeline and then decide whether they would have been fully fit when they started playing.

fremantle are certainly due
i personally think west coast could do it
port adelaide can definitely do it but i wonder if their heads will be screwed on. that's the thing
hawthorn of course will bounce back but that isn't bolting from nowhere. the likes of collingwood obviously cannot do that.

Brisbane to make the 8. Ill be happy for WC to be thereabouts, back to winning at home losing away with the odd swaparound and 11 wins.

I cant see any of the bottom 8 becoming overnight contenders.

geez is it just me or do Hawks supporters get very defensive when trying to explain their fall from grace in 09?

I think Melbourne could be a bolter. There was a period this decade where the Dees were up and down from 1 year to the next like a yoyo. I just get the feeling that with Jurrah up forward and a bunch of young talent all playing together, Melbourne will throw caution to the wind and play some exciting attacking footy that will catch a lot of teams off guard.

I'm not going to pump Freos tyres up too much as they have let me down too often but I don't think your seeing the quality we have.
i have proselytized at least 5 freo dawns. at different times i have looked across every line and seen genuine quality or potentially good young players, and the list depth beyond 25 that should ensure good H+A performances.

they are just always false.

im excited by harvey, morabito, palmer, suban and hill, but i will never again predict a top 4 finish for the dockers until they put together a great season without me shouting about it

ROFL i'm not talking about being unfit at the start of the season. I'm talking about players carrying large beer bellies.

They are elite sportsmen. Even if their preperation isn't great they would still show up without beer guts.

If you really believe that they put in the required effort you are off your nuts.

Can't really blame them btw...

That line of thinking, about parting was an afterthought to our ordinary preseason and first half of the season. It was quite easy for the meida and journos to look at where we were by round 10 and form a conclusion that 'the premiers aren't performing too well, they must've partied pretty hard'.

While the celebrations actually occurred after our victory Mike Sheahan wrote an article of how subdued the group was and how they weren't over doing things with celebration.

We then entered the preseason, a few weeks after most other team and were unlucky enough to cop a few training mishaps to both Hodge and Lewis, Ladson, Ellis, amongst others.

Then after our poor start to the year, the peanut(Sheahan) comes out with reference to a couple of our players going to the races in the spring of 2008 on the same day that Tom Harley competed in a triathlon of sorts. No mention that other AFL players were also at the races, or that another Hawk was also in the same race as Harley.

Our 2009 season was poor for many reasons, and our tenacity certainly wasn't the same as 2008, no doubt, but I don't think it had anything to do with 'partying' too hard. It had more to do with our lack of hunger.

A Caroline Wilson article with no quote from anybody associated with the HFC??

What awesome proof that our injury concerns were 'due to a lack of professionalism over the summer months'.

Our preseason could've been handled better, no doubt in my mind, but that's more to do with hindsight than unprofessionalism.

She can't quote her thouthes since they only exist as a figment of her imagination.

call me crazy but I think your right about Melbourne and sneak in 8th somehow

I agree with this. I think the one thing that might help is that despite Harvey being continually bagged by BF participants (generally because of a certain interview and lack of media presence) he has the team playing hard contested footy for four quarters. Yes, the Adelaide match was a debacle, but we have all seen the same from clubs full of kids at various stages. For example, many people see the West Coast as the possible bolters next year but they lost 3 games by over 100 points in 2008.

I'm expecting we will surprise a few clubs. If we don't Harvey will be in the sights of pretty much everybody.
