MyStar ftw.

Fast forward to their bookings, fast forward to Masch's booking, fast forward to goal, back to V-Hits.

Coolest bloke i know TIG!

How much better did we look when gerrard dropped back, some of his passes to babel just show how important it is to have someone with that level of passing ability. Makes us look at least a little bit fluid with our movement.

It was as plain as day, so rafa cant ignore it surely.

Lol at Riera and Aquilani this morning.:D

Disgraceful performance from the two of them.

Happy with Babel, Pacheco and N'gog though.

We will need to improve on this performance if we are to get anything at City.

It really is time.

Back to 4-4-2 for mine. Even with Torres playing, the 4-5-1 system generally hasn't worked at all this season - he's always so isolated it's ridiculous.

What about the inspired substitution fellas? any happy faces? lovely header back into danger from Dani... now whos boy is he again?

Everyones I think.

Inspired substitution? The only thing that was inspiring - was that fact he didn't start - and that was shockingly UNinspiring.

Not to mention he should've been playing far more frequently this season.

Not a great performance or occasion but we did enough to win.

We should get through from here. It would need us to really play badly and them to really play well in the second leg for us to stuff it up. They have to attack us, we will have more space and should be able to find a goal. They would then need to score three which is very unlikely.

Good (if obvious) substitutions bringing Babel and Pacheco on. Babel really lifted us and was key in the end.

I will give Aquilani the beenfit of the doubt until start of next season, but I must say, he is looking quite crap and nothing of the player he showed at Roma. For the price of Alonso, surely Liverpool could of snagged De Rossi instead.

Should've steered well clear of Italy completely. Let alone buying a permacrock.

Alonso should've never been sold so late in the window - and given our scouts are absolutely diabolical, probably should've never been sold in the first place.

He wouldn't have wanted to leave if Benitez hadn't ****ed him around in that ridiculous pursuit of Barry, either. The whole Barry-Alonso-Aquilani shambles has been a disgrace, and it's pretty much entirely the fault of Benitez.

He has to be sold back to Italy, and hopefully we can recoup a similar fee to what we paid, given some of the fee was performance dependant. Fair to say we won't have to worry about that!

Sell him, and buy a half decent striker - with Jovanovic coming in - it's a good opportunity to hock Babel or Riera off, and spend the proceeds from that on a replacement central player - ideally one with an attacking mindset that has the abilities to adapt to the high tempo of the league.

Commentator Robbie Mustoe was implying we should drop Gerrard back also and that we should have played the 4-4-2 with the second striker. Once again Rafa has disappointed with his team selections, but I was thrilled with Pacheco setting up the goal. Pacheco looks a bit like Maxi Rodrigues and I nearly threw something at my TV when I thought it was Rodrigues coming on instead!

No, it wasn't a great performance from Liverpool, but I thought the Romanians defended well, so I'm happy to take the first-leg win.

Well, if Maxi did replace Aquilani, then... we would have found ourselves thrown out of the competition, which really would have been a win for us.

It really is a catch 22 with Aquilani. If you sell him in the summer, you fail to see if this season was the season he needed to settle and he may explode next season. He has the skill, obviously the main issue is his mentality. Also if you sell him in the summer, you won't get half of what we paid for him. Of course if you keep for another season and he displays the ineptitude he has displayed this season, then you wont get a packet of chips for him.

Like I said for what Liverpool got for Alonso, surely Roma could of parted with De Rossi instead for extra cash. Of course that would of meant the USA owners not lining their pockets with the profit. De Rossi has the physical attributes to succeed in the EPL, Aquilani not so much.

Riera, Maxi and Babel should all be gone. I would be happy for all 3 to go to just bring in Mata from Valencia.

Shamelessly pillaged from TLW.

"Sammy, are they saying 'Boo' or 'Boonitez'?"

Lulz. :D

Apparently some tried to start the Rafa chant and it got booed down. Ominous signs for him if the matchgoers are turning on him.

Didn't he once say that the only club he would ever leave Roma for was Man Utd? Anyway, I don't think he will ever leave Roma unless they were in a desperate need of the money as he is a one-club type. Though, he is a darn good all-round central midfielder who is probably underrated by many.

Should have gone for Hamsik or Javi Martinez.

Or we could have brought Silva in and moved Gerrard back into midfield if it was needed.

I was an advocate of bringing in Silva because of his versatility and abilties which we lack currently.

Did you watch him against Inter the other day? Bloody hell, he tore them apart playing on the right hand side, their best player on the night. Going to have plenty of clubs lining up for his signature.
Na I missed it, would of been good to see.

We have missed the boat when it comes to Hamsik unfortunately as he will be way too expensive for us now.

Its a shame really, he is a class act. I think Inter or Chelsea will end up getting him.

As Bus said, our shite scouts and Benitez are to blame for this current
situation.

Kids won 2-1 against City.

Good way to bounce back from the disappointment of being dumped from the FA Youth Cup by Watford a few weeks ago.

Goals from Emilsson off the bench, who came off the bench to score the winner on debut - in his last league game against Man Utd as well, and Stephen Sama.

Emilsson seems shit hot. Pretty big lad. Primarily an attacking midfielder, but he's a big lad. He's had a good start, anyway.

i dont know what the blokes at melwood are smoking, keeping dalla valle in the U'18s is only going to push him out of the club, he has more talent than any of the strikers in the reserves team.

He's still flopping badly at this point in time, regardless of how long he's been here for.

If he doesn't show any improving signs before the season ends, I wouldn't even give him next season to prove himself.

It's not like he's even shown any encouraging signs, either. Normally even if players are struggling to adjust, they'll show some small snippets of quality to hang your hat on.

Aquilani has shown nothing at all to be encouraged about, He's just been genuinely abysmal.

However, our "style" of play doesn't help him either. He looks to me like he needs to play in a side with good movement.

We have zero movement. Everyone just stands still and hoofs long balls.

Away from home tonight, we can be safe to assume that he wont be starting.

Reina
Carra Skrtel Agger Insua
Lucas Masch
Kuyt Gerrard Maxi
Ngog.

Yep.

We'll be playing on the counter attack, with zero pace. Genius from the manager.
