I posted this on dunns thread in the change rooms. To kick straight from that runup would go against the laws of physics. Why has a kicking coach not gone to him and said, 'it's not working, it's ridiculous, let's fix it!'

I thought the same as the original OP while at the game and walked away well thinking we got one we really shouldn't have but the umpires did a pretty reasonable job under the circumstances. I haven't watched the rest of it though only the last quarter.

I really don't know how the goal umpire couldn't see it. I was in a direct line when the ball went through and couldn't even believe it was even considered to be a goal. I even gave Green an ear full for clapping and trying to steal a goal.

Yep no arguments there. I was already looking at the matchups in Melbourne's forward line right in front of me because I was expecting a Melbourne free.

If I were a Melbourne supporter I'd be complaining more about the umpires attire rather than non goals that were quite clearly non goals. How could they run them out in the same colours as another side.

There are serious question marks surrounding the development of Jack Watts.

I think we will all agree we need a proven KPF to come to the club, However everyone's opinion will differ on who that player is.

Id love Cam Mooney (not sure about his age) Q.Lynch has been playing out of his postion for WCE and hed slot in perfectly at Full forward for us.

I also wouldnt mind someone like John Anthony.

Id almost guarantee Kosi wont be at the saints next year as he is simply not getting it done under Roo. Id be interested to see what his price would be to get him to the club.

This. He's had a year in the system, he's just out of school FFS! Be patient! to say there are doubts over his development is ridiculous, he's added about 20kg and is getting better for Casey.

I don't have a real issue with the umpiring like I did in the post-Collingwood game discussion, but there were three very poor decisions last night:

- Trengoves mark going over the boundary. It is either OOF or a mark, he didn't double grab.
- Frawley being run down by Akermanis, I was laughing when that wasn't paid.
- The field umpire and boundary umpires overruling the goal umpire, when they would have NFI

And the fact the umpires wore pink is a joke (No disrespect meant to breast cancer awareness) because it was always going to be a clash. Typical AFL administration really.

I agree with your other points (even though Trengove arguably didn't have full control of the footy within the field of play), however the third point is clearly wrong.

Both instances where the goal umpire was overruled were perfect examples of why they should be able to be overruled:

-In the Hargrave-Green incident if you watch the replay the ball clearly hits Hargrave's hand, however it is unclear whether it hits Green's foot. If you compare where the two are however Green's foot reaches to before where Hargrave's wrist is. For the ball to have been kicked by Green in the direction it went it couldn't have been kicked with the tip of his foot as the replay would suggest. The only way it could have followed that trajectory off his foot is if it was punched from Hargrave's hand onto the sole of Greens foot. Considering how far back Green's foot was I would consider this highly unlikely and as many other posters on here have concluded, it was a point.

-With the Lake incident the replay shows the ball moving in line with Lake's hand, and for one frame Lake's fingers are shown to have been pushed back, something which could have only occurred if the ball was touched and hence, no goal.

So with two replays showing both incidences were points, after the goal umpire thought both were goals, you still refuse to accept that field umpire's can overrule where they believe the goal umpire is incorrect? Why? If the goal umpire couldn't be overruled you would have kicked 2 more goals when both were points. How ridiculously unfair is that? You would have a right to feel hard done by if they had indeed been goals, but neither was, and you are in fact whinging about the umpires making a correct decision for once.

However there have been hardly any games for any club that this could be said to be true this season. What is the AFL going to do about? Stop sitting on your fat ar%es and do something because these ******s are destroying our great game!

Jack Watts is going to be an absolute champion for our club. The kid is one of the most down to earth, level headed 19 year olds I have ever met and although he gets comments like "pull your head out of your arse" from spectators on a weekly basis and the other crap that stupid wan^ers on this forum dish up to him daily he is more determined than ever to become a massive part of the Dees and is working his butt off to make that happen. He kicked 4 goals for Casey yesterday!

He is still growing and he looks like a long drink of water to be honest but when his bones stop growing his muscles will develop and he will be an unstoppable goal machine for the Dees. I reckon he could come in now but the supporters expectations are way to high on him as they expect him to walk in as a 19 year old and kick a bag of 6 every week.

So cut the crap, lower your expectations for now and give the kid the respect that he deserves because one day you will look back and be bloody ashamed of yourselves.

Have a look at Josh Kennedy's career. Pick #4 in the draft, his first three seasons produced just 18 goals from 29 games. Since then, he has kicked 54 goals from 23 games and is on the verge of becoming one of the best key forwards in the game.

You can even look at the much-maligned Scott Gumbleton. Pick #2 in his draft, he managed just 3 goals in 5 games due to an unlucky run with injuries. Now in his fourth year, he is starting to show some promising signs with 9 goals in 7 games. Probably still a year off breaking out, but he is further proof that young key forwards generally need 3-4 years before they start to feel comfortable at AFL level.

Chris Dawes was a fairly anonymous player in his first two seasons at Collingwood. Now into his third year, he's started well with 7 goals in 3 games and looks to be a great find for the Maggies.

Umpires are going to make mistakes thats just footy, but whoever down at AFL house put them in pink should be on seek looking for a new job. For me the umpires didnt cost us the game it was just inexperience, when bate took at mark about 55 out with under 3 mins left and he centred the ball to a 50/50 contest hurt us, should have taken up as much time as possible and then sent it long or looked short for a free player. As previously mentioned bartram should have kicked off the ground and cleared the ball. As hard as the loss was i think it will be a very good learning experience for us.

Chris Dawes is now in his 4th year of AFL and starting to show something, anyone who expects big things from Watts this year or even next clearly doesnt know why we drafted him, he will take time but will come good. Also if you look how Geelong and Brisbane created their list it was through good trading and drafting, we will have to trade a good player to top up our list, currently we have 6 top 20 darft picks from the last 3 years out of our side, in the next 2 years i think one of these guys will be traded with a pick so that we can pick up a proven KPF.

jPod is proving what everyone has thought about the cats KPF.
Any average KPF in the league would kick 50 odd goals with the delivery they get. Now they have a decent forward (Podsy) he is going to kick a bag full and prove that Mooney and Hawkins are average at best

Suprisingly did not think the umpires were entirely to blame.
I was absolutely filthy after the game, however i think our inexperience just cost us in the end.

• Dunns kick did look to be touched by Lake

The final 2 goals by Lake and Griffen were just pure class. However Bartram should have just kicked it off the ground rather than trying to grab possesion cleanly in such terrible conditions.

Just as i was warming to lynden dunn, he puts in that terrible performance. Every attack on the ball was half hearted by him. Kicking 0.4 is just not good enough, i wish him the best of luck for the scorpions next week.

Got to say i was delighted with the performances of Scully, Trengove, Moloney, Jones, Hughes and Bate.

Jack Grimes would have to be winning our best and fairest at the moment. I think he has to be a legitmate chance to be the captain next year (despite only being in his 3rd season) the kid shows a great amount of pride for the melbourne football club and is such a crucial part of the backline. The future captain has to be him or moloney.

and the two wrong out of bounds on the full aginst the Dees - what are the boundary umpies paid to do ffs? both clearly bounced in field before going out of bounds - in one case the frodo was looking straight at it - my eyes aren't great and I couldn't tell till I saw the slow mo but my son sitting next to me immediately said "that bounced in" - the first wrong decision cost the Dees seven points as after the point there was a goal from a turnover - I guess they weren't forced to do a turnover however but pressure mounts - also was it Everitt who ran through a behind? - in my view clearly under no pressure at all and I thought that sort of thing (almost as bad as Bowden's exploits) was what the new rule was supposed to eradicate - re the previous comments about the disputed touched decisions - two comments - whether they were actually touches or not is irrelevant - what is relevant is that gumbies from 30 or 40 metres away making the determination whan they would have no fricken idea - they may just as well have rung me up and asked what I thought - bad luck Dees I estimate a 30 point turnaround against you due to ridiculous decisions - several demotions (some hopefully permanent) for those officiators is required

Bulldogs supporters sitting in front of me at the game turned around and agreed the umpiring was crap and now a Geelong supporter can point out specific instances of bad umpiring during this game but the AFL does nothing....and why? Because they have launched their campaign to get even more of these inadequate umpires into our game for next season. I think i will sign up and then you just watch the free kicks flow our way....

My thoughts were Melbourne were ROBBED.

How can the central umpire from 30 meters away say he was "fairly confident" it was touched and overrule the goal umpire from 5 meters away?

How can the boundary umpire say it was "clearly touched" when it clearly wasn't?

WTF are the umpires doing wearing pink the same night the Dees are, it's a nice touch but come on? There are 20000 people in the crowd wearing pink, can't the umps give it a miss?
