New Zealand v South Africa (3 T20s, 3 ODIs, 3 Tests)

First of a long line I reckon too.

Absolutely. The amount of talent in South African domestic cricket not getting a go for various reasons will now see a viable option after seeing the success van Wyk and Wagner have had. The ones that would otherwise take up Kolpak deals in England will also see New Zealand as an easier side to make. Just please, no more Grant Elliots.

de Grandhomme is an interesting one. Played for Zimbabwe Under 19s and Zimbabwe A so there was no issue with him getting a game, but chose to move to a stronger cricketing nation. But I suppose, who wouldn't want to get out of Zimbabwe if they had the chance?

Just out of interest, would an Argus style review into NZ cricket be an idea? To look into the lack of improvement in players of the ilk of Southee and see why there's a dearth of talent coming through the ranks?

Not that I watch a much of the Plunket Shield or HRV Cup, just seems to be the same old names bandied around. I suspect there are similar issues in Aus with loss of youngsters to rugby (and AFL) as there's more cash and prestige with the All Blacks. NZ cricket has had potential for a long time, but whether its injury, poor coaching, poor man management, lack of development coaching or whatever, surely there's more that can be done

Maybe the kiwis are limited by a small populaton and preference for rugby. With a small population base, it's not easy to keep producing champions.

Theres no arguing with those issues, but all Western cricketing nations face that issue with regards to alternative sports, and we all fight a losing battle with India for population :)

Re: 2011/2012 International Cricket Calendar

Hopefully the Kiwis get upset those Saffas!!

Good first test...thought the Kiwis had them after bowling them out in the 1st dig.
Lets see how the second one goes.

Not sure theres no talent coming through.I'd argue that Williamson, Bracewell, Latham,Boult are all pretty handy cricketers. Guptill is also better than he's produced. I think if he batted at 5-6 he'd be much more useful.
We just dont have the depth, a couple of injuries and they either have to throw a youngster in there, or haul in some old provincial cricketer.

As for Southee. He's suffereing from a lot of what Hilfenhaus went through recently. The balls swinging from his hand. His action is also getting too round armed, so no bounce.

I raised that at work the other day, we have an English guy in the office as well as a bunch of Kiwis with me being the resident Aussie. I was wondering when South Africa A, B and C were going to hold the top 3 spots in the test rankings :D

Dont forget de Grandhomme (spelling?), raiding the Zimmers as well :)

All in jest :)

Maybe Kepler Wessels has started a new job advising on how to change countries ? :)

NZ batting

Boult & Southee dropped. Arnel & Gillespie in

disappointed that Boult hasnt beeen retained, got some talent & better long term bet than either of the above you'd think

Wow, thats unexpected. But more like how you (they) held Williamson back from playing Aus to ease him into test cricket. There's an argument either way - to sink or swim or go gently, but he was punished a little in the first test, so maybe its the best thing for his long term confidence

Bowled a bit better than his figures suggested. but yep he was a bit expensive.

Im in the give the guy a chance to learn against the best camp. Especially if you think he has the talent.
I hope to be proved wrong, but cant see Arnel or Gillespie being too successful.

Nicol looks out of his depth. he's been around first class cricket a long time, but finding the step up a bit much. Mind you Morkel, Philander,Steyn & Kallis would test most openers !

63-2 at lunch.SA slightly in front

Finally the covers come off after two hours of nothing but one-and-off spitting.

Interesting decision to drop Boult. I don't think it was a terrible move, but the guys coming in are 32-33 and won't do any better. Very relieved that Ellis isn't there.

Will only be a matter of minutes until either Rosco or Baz go for the big shot....

Taylor must be biting through his top lip resisting his natural urges :)

2/131 - Black Caps looking pretty comfortable

Ed: McCullum goes the big shot instead, and is out. Big mouth strikes again.:eek:

4/0

Damn Steyn and Philander are guns. Average of 14 in his sixth test.

5 for NONE. Bracewell now. Another beauty from Philander. Some things never change.

The Vettori ball was an absolute corker from Philander. Thanks very much, Brendan.
