Was hoping Khawaja would get a gig in the A side but I guess his form doesn't warrant it.

Khawaja is playing for Derbyshire.

Him and Hughes should be allowed to just concentrate on having succesfuly county cricket seasons.

Has he proven he can play at this level yet? Not really. He hasn't proven he can play at State level ODI's.. the only thing he did was prove he can play at T20. But then again, T20 is the best indicator of form according to selectors (for the past 4 years anyway).

Just lol @ Johnson being back after doing nothing.. what a waste of space he is. Just like John Holland. He had that good game against the Redbacks where we almost choked.. and other than that has hardly done anything, gets an A gig. I really do wonder how the selectors base some of their decisions. It boggles the mind.

Does anyone know what Paine is doing now? He should be spending the winter in the UK playing some level of cricket. Also does anyone have a list of the current players up at the COE in Brisbane? I know Cummings and MMarsh are already up there...

MJ named off no games? Wow! At least it's not a test squad, as he'd been better in one day games than tests, before he got injured.

Christian stiff to not make a squad of 17 and Quniey must wonder what he has to do to make the A team.

Think we could have gotten some more fast bowling options into the one day squad, too. Six (plus Watson) is cutting it a bit fine.

Would the selectors be using the Australia A games and the ODI matches against England as the starting point for the 2013 Ashes series?

Hope that by the time these games are over John Inverarity and his selection panel would have a fair idea of not just who'll be in the frame for a spot on the Australian side for the Ashes tour next year, but more importantly, which England players from the England ODI side and the English Lions (similar to the Australia A team) they would go up against when the 2013 Ashes series begins.

This is correct Manni. Cant remember which club but Im sure little duck will tell you if you ask him.

This will be an interesting tour for Bird. He'll need to pitch up a little more in England to make his seam work more effective. If he gets it right it will be interesting to watch.

Johnson in concerns me. If he can become more of an allrounder then fine, but his bowling alone isn't good enough.

No McDermott also concerns me, for the A team. Bird and Paine in is good though.

You must live a very stressful life if this concerns you. He was never getting picked. Cummins, Starc and Pattinson meant there wasn't a need for a token young player to be picked, and Bird and MJ were no brainers over him. So it was Cutting or McDermott for the last spot. They went with the guy, that as noted in here, was days away from making his test debut 6 months back. If I had to pick one of those two, I probably would have picked McDermott (really, I'd bang my fist on the table and demand I be able to pick Magoffin) but it's pretty easy to understand why Cutting got picked

I didn't mean literally. I was just gunning for Alister to get selected. But fair enough, when you spell it out like that it does make sense. However I personally feel McDermott is a superior prospect to Starc, who I don't think will be a long term player. Just my opinion though.

I've been fairly happy with team selections under the current panel though I have to say. It's certainly better than the old one.

I know Khawaja's form had been poor... But would have loved to have seen him tour ahead of someone like Klinger. Then I think the side has a fair balance.

Sending Lyon to England seems like an opportunity for Lyon to familliarise himself with England conditions.

What's the word on young Mitch anyway? In terms is injuries.

I know Marsh had an abysmal summer in the tests, but because of that was dropped for the ODI's and T20's. I think it's pretty clear from his domestic T20 form and his ODI record he should be at least being considered.

Pretty staggered that they took Klinger over Quiney. Quiney had a great year, but didn't get rewarded.

Marsh has been dropped from International T20 based on his international T20 form tbf. OD is a bit stranger but I don't mind Bailey being given a shot.

Having said that his lazy defensive technique and habit of leaving a gap between bat and pad would probably mean he'd be shit in swinging English conditions.

Cutting was a bees dick from playing the Gabba test, why is he suddenly not good enough for an A game?

I really don't want to see him batting for Australia in England in test cricket. I think he'd be about as much use as **** on a bull.

I can't really say which Aus players would do well, but I'm positive that he would be awful.

Have to agree that sending him to England might be a bit of a risk. However if he plays good Test cricket (if he even makes the team) between now and then we should give him a shot.

The next away Ashes series is in 2013 - next year. We then host them for the 2014/2015 home season.

And after 2014/15 we tour England again in 2015.
3 Ashes series in 3 years.

Possibly they're aiming at reclaiming the Ashes in 2014/15 or 2015.

It would be rather suprising if we won them next year.
