Is it fair to say that is the finest quarter by a young player in many years?

Ollie Wines, SIXTEEN high-pressure possessions and a goal in the last quarter v the Pies.

I preferred Tom Mitchell's quarter vs Essendon this year.

And to think he was the sub, there are about 3-4 players whom I would have put in front of to start the match.

Needed a bit of a rocket and looked like it worked. Kid is a gun.
Managed more than rocket one would think as he is only 18.

Tom Scully against rthe dogs in the fourth quarter in 2010 is the only game I can think of that's even close, and I'd still give it to Wines.

Come down to the wire with Wines and Omeara for rising star. Think Omeara has the edge on him at the moment though
I think you might be right regarding the eventual winner, but one shouldn't underestimate what Wines is achieving.
O'Meara is only 5 months younger and has been in the system for the same amount of time as Wingard. He has also played only 2 games with less than 80% gametime.

Wines has only been in the system for this one year (not quite a full pre season) and has not played one single game where he has been on the field for 80% of the time and 3 games (including today) with less than 70% gametime.

If O'Meara wins it, good on him and well deserved but geesh Wines has achieved and is achieving heaps for a real first year rookie.

^ this is an important difference between the 2 players. Wines is playing in a deeper midfield and getting less game time... and yet his stats are pretty much the same as JOM. Wines only had 55% Time On Ground today for 26 disposals.

TBH I don't care who wins it. Love watching them both.

He is bustling along quite nicely.

Certainly an early bloomer with his body size, but harden his frame up a little more and he will be very very hard to stop.

Wines, Mitchell and omeara . Will be the 3 best mids in the game in 3-4 years

6-7 would be the conservative estimate. All three are great prospects though. O'Meara is still the clear leader for me with Wines not far off.

One thing that might get overlooked is how much we're managing him this year. In the 13 games he's played, he averages 71% game time. That means basically an entire quarter off every game.

He's still averaging 21 touches a game. Argh, can't help imagining him with 3 preseasons under his belt.
