Strategy Where Will Our Goals Come From In 2015 ?

Saw Kruzer a few times in Noosa. He is looking lean, too lean for ruck work. I have a feeling they will try him up forward again. Also saw Waite and Hendo surfing but now I'm just bragging ;)
Were they any good? Belly fancies himself as a ripper apparently.

A Cripps that drifts forward into marking positions could do some real damage. There aren't many midfielders who could compete in the air with him.

That said, I'm not optimistic about our forward line next year. Not that we'll be any worse - Garlett and Waite did almost nothing between them. I've seen enough of Kreuzer to know he'll never be a starting forward. Maybe 2016.

Posted back on page 2 where I thought our goals would come from based on historical performance, new recruits and a few who might step up

Have realised the error in my ways in posting the following team
Tuohy Jamieson. Simpson
Sheehan Rowe. Jaksch/White
Yarran Gibbs Everitt
Walker Henderson Menzel
Buckley Jones/Watson Casboult
Kreuzer Murphy Curnow

Docherty Thomas Bell Judd
emerg:Whiley Carazzo crips Graham Ellard

I now have concluded that Mick won't play a specialist small forward and so Buckley will fight it out with Tuohy and Daisy (who I forgot) will play forward

I must say though as a dinosaur I prefer the small specialist forward kicking 30-40 goals then the extra midfielder going forward, as none of ours seem to score enough
Mick obviously has his plans, why else would he let Eddie go.
Maybe Tutt will be PSD'd in case the strategy is failing again this year but I pose this controversial question:

Any chance Garlett got confused this year about what he was meant to do, easy when it's get ball kick goal, but maybe this year the extra activity of run through midfield got him confused, he lost confidence, it snowballed and add a few outside issues and the kid ends up not being able to do what he was paid to do - kick goals? Let's be honest us armchair critics couldn't care if he got 5 or 20 kicks as all we cared about from Jeffy was sausage rolls. Did Micks plan break him?

Tutt might kick 25-30 goals if he player every game, he's not too bad, might fill that small forward role if the position comes up. Bit of a tough role as it can involve prolonged periods of no result.

Is Cripps actually any good in the air or are we just saying this because he's tall? Genuine question.

Same thought went through my head when I read someone suggest it. I think he is just a big bodied tall inside mid like Watson and Judd. Neither Watson or Judd are particularly noted for their marking even though they are quite tall. Then again some tall mids like our own Kouta of past and Fyfe now are damn good marks for mids. Guess we just wait and see if he develops that ability too.
Just because someone is tall does not mean that marking is one of their attributes they bring to the game. No better example of this than Warnock. He barely averages a mark a game and he s taller than 95% of footballers on the ground.

Docherty up forward has potential imo.

I'd like Docherty across half back/wing again next season. It's only his 2nd year as a blue, had a rough life in 2014 from the sounds of things, i think he will be in for a big year next year.

Docherty seems like a natural footballer to me with plenty of tricks. I just think that we already have so many options down back at the moment. Tuohy, Yarran, Sheehan, Buckley, Simpson are also competing for spots down back. Thomas, Walker and Everitt will certainly play down back at times as well.

Long term I'm see Doc playing on-ball and wing but I'm not sure what his fitness levels will be like for 2015.

I think Tuohy was extremely lucky to play all year this season, think he will be fighting hard to maintain a spot in 2015.

Tuohy was great in 2013 but competition for spots is always appreciated.

Sheehan certainly looks like he has the tools to be a great mid-sized defender which we have lacked for quite awhile imo.

I agree. I think if he is not used in a different role he won't have much of a future at all at Carlton.
I am not saying that he can't play but he definitely was shown up more often then not in defence this year.
Use him as a half forward where he can use his long kicking to advantage from the stoppages.
Give him that role and leave him in it.

it was obvious he was carrying something this year, don't write him off yet...

I hope Kreuzer plays more forward, proven can kick goals and take marks

Casboult, Hendo, Jones, Menzel few mids kicking goals and theirs the winning score

For me, Kreuzer has shown his best form up forward when playing in the ruck (if that makes sense).

It's one thing to slip off an opposition ruckman, float down and bag a goal or two.

Another thing completely to start down forward and playing against a full-time defender, with the other team having planned on how to mitigate your presence.

Makes perfect sense. We need him in thick of it to make most of his talent. Not wasted at full forward. He is not called a tractor for nothing.
