Sorry what? How are Barry Hall or Leigh Matthews comparable to Goodes?
And thanks for confirming there are no black players booed like Goodes. Think we can put the 'racist' claims to bed then.
Name a white player who has bent treated like this .....

Do people truly think that a just turned 13 year old could possibly have known that when she yelled ape at Adam Goodes that it would hit him like a 1 tonne racial slur of bricks? I know it must be impossible or outside reality that a child could look at Adam Goodes and think he looks like an ape for no other reason than she think he looks like an ape, as in monkey that she has probably learnt about at primary school. She didn't know the full extent and consequence of what she was saying. This is not the point. The point is Adam should have known this, being an adult who probably has kids himself. 13 year olds also do not fully understand the myriad of different sexuality and the slur words that go with that. Yet they will still sling those words around. How many thirteen year olds among us knew up to thousands of years of human race relations and the words that go with all of it and the meaning etc? Do you think that Australia's horrid past is copy and pasted into young peoples minds through govt education? Hell no! I finished school in 2007 and learnt/taught **** all about indigenous issues. IMO racism only largely exists institutionally now and that's the problem, not little girls saying ape, not at your local footy club, not with boos. Adam Goodes truly felt like his identity and race was attacked by a girl who wouldn't even partially understand race issues at all. Yes it must have hurt him ofc but maybe someone has to be the adult here and get on with it and see it for what it was and from where it came (name calling from a little girl) not what it could possibly, maybe, be, Yet Isn't (purposeful racially motivated slur from little girl who knew or didnt know either way lets slam her), oh yeh that adult is Goodes. Does anyone get a chance to learn things without a public shame session as a child? Is that meant to bring us all together or some shit? **** sake. If you get upset about what a 13 year old says to you then your a child yourself. If you try and spin what a child said to you as racially motivated and instigate a public commentary about it, your a douchebag.

o_O

None so blind as those who refuse to see.

Goodes's War Dance did nothing to address ' poverty, disadvantage, loss of culture and the breakdown of society'. Thanks for proving my point.
Things are bad in indigenous communities. A lot of people aren't aware of how bad things are. People should be more aware. More needs to be done.
These communities can do more to help themselves. Sure.
But where is it being argued that the war dance was actually about addressing these issues? Frankly, if someone expressing any sort of pride in being indigenous gets so many people up in arms, it's not hard to understand why we aren't getting anywhere. Your argument is flawed.
Respected? By whom? 30 odd blog posts in 4 years
People on this site/social media who don't even understand half of what the post is about or just didn't read it at all.
Working at a school were 100% of the kids are indigenous..

Its been a big story up here just like everyone else around the country. Pretty obvious that a fair potion on here seem to forget that Indigenous people read and use social media.

We read a few newspaper articles, roar articles and this thread. The kids had some pretty profound reflections.

Australia has a LONG LONG LONG way to go.

We may not be a racist country(though you could make a pretty good argument for it) but we are without doubt terribly ignorant.
No, it's only white, middle class social justice warrior types who vote for the ALP and the Greens who are reacting to this.
Stop with the lies and propaganda, we knows it's a conspiracy!

It doesn't make any sense why Goodes was so bitter and angry in the first place.

The AFL community has celebrated Indigenous culture for at least the past 20 years. When the odd bigot yells out something racist in the crowd, they are instantly reported by other fans, then ejected and the club revokes their membership. We've come a long way from the "Nicky Winmar at Victoria Park" days.

He's a dual Brownlow medallist, 4 x All-Australian, Indigenous Team Of Century member & 3 x BnF winner. The AFL has rewarded his contributions to the game.

So why is he still angry? When he complains about Indigenous issues, he is complaining to the AFL community, who have treated him so well.
We already report and ban racists, what more can we as fans do?

Hawks and Swans have enjoyed a good rivalry over the last few years (Didn't Goodes star in the 2012 GF?) and incidents like the one below have fuelled the hostility:

He then publically complains about the booing after the round 8 Hawks game before performing a war dance towards the crowd against Carlton the week after. The football community is alienated by Goodes, who feel that he has made it into a race issue when most fans just want to reconcile with Indigenous people and get on with the footy.

People are tired of the lectures and they don't appreciate the condemnation when they were originally just trying to support him.

Please do not bring facts into an argument

By your own definition, your ongoing booing of Goodes, with the knowledge of everything that has come to light this week (including the explanations of other Aboriginal people how hurt they have been from decades of abuse etc), represents, to me, an "antagonism directed against someone of a different race" based on the fact you think you have a right to belittle him, and are therefore superior to him.
Jesus christ this is stupid; by that logic anyone who insults anyone is a racist.

Stop twisting the definition, and point out where I (or anyone else) suggested that Goodes gets booed because he's inferior to the white race.

Priceless. It's like being in a front loading washing machine or dryer. If you stare long enough your favourite items will come spinning around again.... and again... and again... and again... and again...;)
Yep, it'll make you vom as well!

I think we both know you were more interested in your angle than my answer.

No just interested if you believed in free speech/expression but thought the booing should be stopped. I find often people are for free speech in theory until someone says something they don't agree with. The price of freedom of speech or expression is often having to put up with things that one may find distasteful. Apologies if some of this is going over your head.

Going AGINST the ethos of your own clubs views

People who hate are usually racists also ........fits the criteria

You might not be racist but you're carrying out racist type views
Going against my own club means nothing. I'm not a sheep who agrees with everything they do.

People who hate? Like who? Did I say I hated anyone?

Racist type views? Like what? Where did I suggest he was inferior because of his skin colour?

Sorry, this is just too dumb.

If you think Adam Goodes has his head up his arse then call him out on it. Come up with something you can shout rather than just boo.

You are kidding right? What can people say to him? "You self-serving arseh*le goodes"? Like that? ... that appears grounds for vilification from here on in.. One report from a bleeding heart and your membership is likely revoked. Don't play dumb.

This is special treatment on hyperdrive.

How much spin needs to be involved to make "you're an Ape" a racial comment?

I'll give you a hint. It's a number between nothing and zero.

Oh so I am a clown now? Thanks for the ad hominem. I'll wear it with pride.

Notwithstanding your mistaken belief that abuse constitutes an argument, it does not change the fact that for all the angst and hot air exchanged over racism, bugger all action is taken to rectify the substantive issues.

Much easier to pontificate about the nebulous concept of racism that, like beauty , is in the eye of the beholder.

Not you necessarily. You actually appear to be a very reasonable person, up to debate the issue on it merits. I meant clown more in the true performing artist/politician sense.

Whilst it's true that calling out racism doesn't do much to benefit the lives of Indigenous Australians. I'm sure we can agree that the easiest way to lift someone from disadvantage is to get them in employment. With a section of Australia still confused, distrustful or scared or Indigenous people, that becomes a lot harder. Sometimes you need shock events like this see where everything lands so we can reset policy.

i actually think the tall poppy syndrome of goodes actually being very successful and privileged is more a cause of the problem.

AFL has a long way to go.
Soccer, Rugby League and Rugby Union don't have the problems we do.

Name a white player who has bent treated like this .....

There has never been A white player awarded AOTY while still playing, if that's what you mean.....Not even sure if another footballer has full stop.

Not to mention being feted by the AFL, to the point of attempting to silence any dissenting voice.

The game is bigger than any player....Including Adam Goodes.

I don't see many aboriginal players getting booed any more than any other player, but I see a lot of aboriginal players getting cheered and applauded and put up on pedestals by fans for their abilities and character and the good things they do for their club, the game and the broader community all the time, how can this possibly be the case? is it only Sydney aboriginal players we are racist against as a football community?
