Who would have through that the Saints played in the two most watched GF's in Melbourne? Reason perhaps as to why the AFL give them reasonable TV games as soon as they're remotely competitive.

Yeah, Collingwood being the other team had nothing to do with it...

Massive ratings in Melbounre - 743,000 - biggest ever for a brownlow or other event outside a grand final that I know of.

I remember that 2007 Preliminary Final between Collingwood and Geelong rated over 800,000 in Melbourne.

Also, the Round 20, 2000 match between Essendon and Carlton (can't believe it was 15 years ago) rated 808,000 in Melbourne. If you search my posts from over a decade ago, you can find links to it.

The Melbourne Oztam catchment back in 2000 was about 3.7 million, nowadays it's well over 4 million, so that 800,000 would have been the equivalent of nearly a million in Melbourne in 2015. For a Home and away game!

That round 20 H&A game, was, quite simply, the biggest home and away game there has ever been or ever will be. Even in 100 years time, there will never be another home and away game as big as that one.
