Realistically he was omitted as was Bird this week - both got a reasonable amount of footy but butchered it...

Agree. Not sure there is an obvious replacement.

If he was omitted he wouldn't have got back in without playing a match in the VFL....

Exactly, Cooney had his rest and then once back someone had to make way, given Bird wasn't that bad last week and the team went ok, if he had been omitted I doubt he would have come straight back in.

The guy is a former brownlow medalist and you can't imagine anyone being interested in the reason he was omitted? There was even discussion on his player thread about it.

It's a little bit "deliverance" in here these days.

never said he was omitted. IMO it was more just that there wasnt really anyone else to take out of the side so they just gave him a rest instead of dropping someone like McKenna after one game
