Yeah, I'm genuinely confused too. Will just have to see tomorrow I guess, I would think (hope) that there is at least one more twist in this deal to be unveiled.

If you think my post is weird you are going to be surprised reading the rest of this thread if it plays out as suggested.

It's a straight swap........Smedts for Touhey. We won on that deal
Don't think so unfortunately. This straight from the AFL app
CARLTON will secure unlucky Geelong utility Billie Smedts as part of a deal to send Zach Tuohy to the Cats.

Geelong will hand over its future first-round selection while Carlton will give back its future second-round pick to complete the deal on Friday.

The Cats had to apply to the AFL for permission to trade their future first-round selection during this year's NAB AFL Trade Period, as they had already traded this year's first-round pick as part of the 2015 deal that landed ex-Carlton defender Lachie Henderson.

I hope there is something else coming. We can't win the flag like this. We need more class.
We`ve lost both Bartel and Enright from our best 22 and gained 2e who is no flog on the field.
Opens the door for the **** and a few other youngsters you dont go from 2nd to 10th by losing what weve lost so everyone needs to calm down.

Salary cap. Deledio earns as much as dangerfield. Can't fit him in. Although you would think they would of realised that from the start.

Surely with Bartel, Enright, vardy, smedts, kersten and caddy all leaving and us just bringing in tuohy, there would be a shit load of cap space...?

Nah, I'm fine.
I'm not a melter...

By the way even for those who are assuming the Richmond trading 24 for Caddy thing is true doesn't mean it means we won't get a first rounder.

For example:
GWS get Geel 2017 1st rnd from Carlton for Marchbank Pickett etc
GWS trade their 2017 1st rnd (pick 14-18) to GWS for Deledio, Richmond pay a heap of his salary
GWS trade pick 15 to Geelong, Richmond trade pick 24 and pick 27 to GWS and get pick 37 back. Geelong trade Caddy and pick 42 and 56 to GWS for 15 51 and 60.
GWS actually get an extra 147 points over 15 which is all they care about as 15 is just points for bids anyway, Richmond get their precious arguing point of a first rounder and Geelong get a first rounder and give up a minimal downgrade that they probably don't care about anyway.
If there was to be any sort of deal I suspect this is similar to what it would look like. Although judging by Wells comments today I doubt there will be a deal at all the club seems pretty happy to keep Josh.
So what you're saying is:

The only way that we're talking about Caddy and your 2nd rounders is if you or (more likely) GWS are giving us a player we want.

Otherwise it's a crazy trade, and we didn't get to be the club we are by making crazy trades.

Hmmm who I wonder

Looks good.

But I actually think this is beyond Wells's comprehension.

You are much better at this than our recruitment staff and I have no faith that they have the ability to even think like this.

I actually think that Wells thinks 24 is a good trade for a contracted Caddy.

The whole logic is silly. Ruggles is a plodder with little talent but works hard and filled a gap. Lang has weaknesses he needs fixing but has some serious talent in certain areas and plays a position we have a lot of talent in. If he can work on his weaknesses he will be a level or two or three above ruggles.

Thanks for explaining what I was trying to say earlier better than I could have done it.
More....hmmm.....they could throw in Miles.

No we want a first round pick not players. The pick is more use. And we will get it or Cadds will stay which he is happy to do.

Mate cmon this is the same Wells that creamed the trade period last year. Give him some credit we will see.

Jesus.......it just gets worse

Bartels wage may still have to count in the salary cap even though he is not playing. No one knows the answer to this. We also may of been stupid and back ended some of the big deals like Taylor's, Mackies or hawkins.
Surely not he isn't contracted next year. Triggered a clause yes, that would mean any monies owed would come in a brown paper bag...a thick brown paper bag!

Trading out 3 first rounders in 3 years will be a disaster, 2E deal could've been done without a first round pick surely?

The Dangerfield trade is a winner & the Hendo one so far so good.
Relax, the landscape has changed.
The top young players drafted this year will walk out and into new clubs in 2-3 years time.
