Australian Test Tour of Bangladesh August/September 2017

Well you'd pick Holland over Agar because he is without a doubt the superior bowler.

I'm not sure why the second spinner has to be someone can be bat when they'll take one of the four specialist spots.

Not when you already have Lyon and Hazelwood who let's be honest are number 10's at best. You need batting depth and Holland was average at best the last time he played. Now if Lyon was out then I'd consider Holland. Starc's batting will be sorely missed and if Agar and Holland are both going to get 2-3 wickets a test why not pick the bloke who is a great lower order bat and one who bats in the top 6 for his State and he is brilliant in the field.

Gone are the days where your bowlers can't bat.

Marsh is worse although I have a bad feeling that Mitch will be back when fit and that gives me nightmares
Shaun is, Mitch no! Mitch isnt a up and coming 30 odd yr old that has been in the system for 10 odd years with his one or two big scores of the seasons coming in a drawn dead rubber

At least Shaun has performed at test level before. Mitch is a waste of time. Hope Cartwright makes that spot his own so we won't have to endure the Marsh fiasco again

Is Ussie actually going to play, or is this another holiday to the sub continent for him?
Looking at the squad, he'll play and Cartwright will be the reserve. Chance for him to pad his figures against an inferior opponent (though getting better) and guarantee selection for the next Asian tour, where he'll probably average under 10 again.

Yep. Another holiday so he can easily slot back in for our flat tracks without the dropped tag. Cartright will probably be the fall guy who'll have to prove everyone wrong. I hope he does.

If Khawaja makes runs in Bangladesh he absolutely should be guaranteed selection for the next Asian tour. Bangladesh's recent test history shows that they are no longer easy-beats especially at home.

This is obviously assuming that Khawaja makes runs where others dont and we arent racking up 600+ runs scores.

My Test side:
- Renshaw
- Warner (by default)
- Cartwright/Khawaja (depends on how good they both are at playing spin ATM, plus Cartwright has done well at #3 for WA apparently)
- Smith*
- Handscomb
- Maxwell (batted well enough in India to deserve another go, plus he can break a few partnerships)
- Wade+ (IMO did enough to keep his place)
- Pattinson (bowled well in India in 2013 and can reverse the ball - use him as a strike option)
- Cummins (will do more than Agar IMO, even on a subcontental turner)
- Lyon
- Hazlewood

so the squad for the 2 test tour will comprise of 14.

another quick to be added from bird, behrendorf, tremain and sayers.

end of the day whoever gets that last spot will just be a tourist unless patto/cummins gets injured.

could be the first time both patto and cummins play in the same test XI.

Saying Holland and Agar would have similar output with the ball would be like saying Cartwright should play ahead of Cummins because both likely to be as effective as each other but Cartwright is the better bat!

O'Keefe was the weakest of the spin bowlers on either side in the final 3 Tests; by the end he wasn't even keeping it particularly tight.

Don't know whether off-field behaviour was the decisive factor but not terribly surprised at his omission.
Maybe so, but that doesn't mean there is anybody better.
And I would have thought the dickhead drunken thing would fit with the team culture of Australia, so it can't be that.

And if the contracts aren't dealt with, I suggest the BF cricket board go instead. We're all experts.
International cricket is crying out for my over the wrist spin, and sub ten batting average.

If Khawaja makes runs in Bangladesh he absolutely should be guaranteed selection for the next Asian tour. Bangladesh's recent test history shows that they are no longer easy-beats especially at home.
This, I will not be surprised if we drop a test. They knocked off the Poms there last year, and they are a pretty decent side these days. If our batsman don't turn up one day, we could well lose a test.

If you are an allrounder you need to be good enough to be picked on batting or bowling alone. Agar doesnt bat well enough to be in the top 6 and he certainly doesn't bowl well enough to be in the best 5 bowlers so he shouldn't play. Get 2 or 3 wickets a test? Gee he would be lucky not to get 0 for 150.

But given how incompetent our selectors have shown themselves to be the last few years his selection isn't surprising. Our selectors should all get sacked and go find new jobs.

I think Agar is an all-rounder disguising himself at present as a bits and pieces player. He's played some extremely important innings for WA, for a while he was regularly saving or winning matches for the Warriors at 8.

He's still young so has time to build. Not sure I'd have him in the test squad yet, but they obviously like him and see a lot in him. He's a very good fielder on top of his other bits and pieces.
