“I know the footy world out there is saying ‘well, 2016 thank God Hawthorn didn’t win it’ we’re saying ‘get ready we’re coming again in 2017’,”

"We believe we have a group of players that can help us deliver that despite what everyone else thinks about our more senior guys being past their best and all that sort of stuff."

You referenced 17 other clubs - I responded then you referenced hawthorn
Id save the searching for cartoons and get professional help 'cupcake'

CupCake? five year figures noron. bombers v hawks 2016 to 2017 was 300% improvement. you know that the attendance counts opposition fans as well?

I love five year averages.

Average home attendance, 2012-2016:

Essendon: 43,630
Hawthorn: 36,972

Some of our fans skipped a year while half our VFL team was playing, probably fair enough, yet we've got higher attendances than a team which finished top 4 last year and has more members?

And we don't have to sell matches interstate to get an extra 10k 3-match members and prop up our numbers and bottom line. I wonder how many of those will keep turning up.

And how are we not closer to a flag? We're in the finals, that's got to be closer to a flag than 17th and looking like getting worse again next year, doesn't it?

I'd rather our club who have overcome some mistakes but stuck together than Hawthorn which use low-socio-economic areas as pokie revenue to prop up the club for when the fans disappear again. Is that not as utterly repugnant?

By 2021 Hawthorn might have more members in Tassie than in Melbourne and just vote to move the club anyway. Probably the easiest way for Tassie to get a team.

barrel scraping. you are allowed excuses but hawks fans arent?

As you noted unless hawthorn suffer about four disasters in seperate economies all at once they will be fine. Bombers OK soo seem to have an endless supply of money and bent lawyers

While the amount of positive glee displayed here from Essendon fans here is touching, it's a little concerning.

Then again, I suppose when the greatest achievement from your club over the past decade (and some), is to have your forever-tainted-as-cheats players return from their year long drug suspensions, you'll take glee wherever you can get it.

And that's with the bandwagon in full swing at Hawthorn and a period of turmoil at Essendon. It's the best figure Hawthorn fans could hope for and the worst Essendon will have.

So you say its perfectly OK to have a drop off at essendon because of 'turmoil' but not to have a drop off at hawthorn (which you will not I did not deny) because it doesn't suit your point

anyway, your figures are interesting. we have less support but four flags, you have better everything but.. well you know very well how bad youve performed

How did we rob them? We put an offer on the table that they accepted?
Did we get robbed when we lost Buddy?and got pick 22 or similar.

Well you bent them over in that deal, with Croad heading back 2? seasons later

McPharlin turned out to be a great Freo player but not #1 value

Ess 48k average best since 2010

2010/51k 11/45k 12/47k 13/45k 14/40k 15/36k 2016/48k

So give us six years before declaring a permanent 'drop-off' OK?

I checked the figures as suggested below

HA!

You don't understand the point mate, if you did you wouldn't have come out with this nonsense.

You see sunshine, here's the difference - no one is trying to DENY that Essendon dropped off in 2016. It happened, no one disputes it.

But here's your comment:

"If that continues not many fans will drop off"

Well clearly they are. 20% At the moment - that's a fair bloody chunk, particularly when you consider Hawk fans hadn't quite comprehended just how bad they'd be when they signed up for memberships, reserved seats and so on.

But then, you compounded the nonsense:

"CupCake? five year figures noron."

Why oh why wouldn't you CHECK those figures before opening your mouth. We had two things happen simultaneously - Essendon had it's worst ever period, Hawks had their best - and you are STILL, demonstrably, not as well attended. I'm not offering any groundbreaking insight here, you could have checked those figures yourself...

anyway, your figures are interesting. we have less support but four flags, you have better everything but.. well you know very well how bad youve performed

Actually we have sixteen flags. So better everything - you could have stopped there.

I guess what we're trying to say is that even if O'Meara turns out to be a gun, he'll be like Mark Murphy running around with Liam Jones (forward-line Liam Jones).

All of Hawthorn's best players are older players.

Hawthorn's top 5 in last years' Brownlow:

Mitchell - 16
(T Mitchell -12)
Lewis - 11
Gibson - 10
Burgoyne - 10
Rioli - 8

So even if you count the Mitchells as a straight replacement, is O'Meara going to replace Lewis, Gibson and Burgoyne next year?

Hawthorn sure don't have any draft picks to replace them.
Why do we have to replace them next year?

Because you still haven't replaced Lewis, Gibson is just about the worst CHB in the competition at the moment and if Burgoyne isn't cooked by the end of this year, he will be by the next, he turns 35 this October.

How many years has it taken saint kilda to replace DalSanto, Milne, Hayes, Goddard and Roo?

Definitely more then 1 draft. Some still need replacing imo.

We haven't really replaced Lake, but might not do that at all.

What are we 'building" by the way a sydney, collingwood or saints, freo list to win a single flag (or go close)?

or another Lions, Cats or Hawks list to win three from five?

Big difference in the star power needed

Anyway, 2009 to 2015 Hawks went 10th, 8th, 4th, 2nd 1st +1 +1 so I don't see how you say Hawks fans aren't patient. It was a slow build

Yes, you haven't replaced Lake, hence why Frawley is struggling and you're 17th on the ladder and teams like Gold Coast and St Kilda beat you by 10+ goals.

That's right, it takes more than one draft to replace such stars. Hawthorn won't even start replacing them until the end of next season. That's the entire problem in a nutshell. Hawthorn are headed down exactly the same path as St Kilda were post-Lyon. I'm glad you're actually in complete agreement. Your mate Pessimistic thinks you just let guns like Lake retire and don't bother trying to replace them. It's a wonder you ever bothered recruiting him, you're doing so well since he left.

How can you say that, just a gut feeling? In the world of FA we could find 1 replacement this off season if we are lucky.

Dont mind me, im just not ready to throw the baby out of the bath tub because of your gut feeling.

Frawley injured thanks for asking. Good for you projecting what I think about lake mr mind reader. Esp as it was just a passing comment.

We have started replacing and you know that but doesn't fit in with your tirade

Actually, that's not right.

The "I want it now, what's the answer now, what's the conclusion now" crew make you think that, but a lot of people know that 6 months after the trade isn't when you draw conclusions.
What I'm getting at is that even if he was playing well. Trading four picks inside the first two rounds for him would not have been a good deal.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he can come out and be an absolute gun for us but even if he does I'm still going to question the trade anyway for the amount we gave up for him.
