2006 - The Worst AFL draft ever

Thankyou, it appears someone can read the OP for what it is, and it seems to have gone over so many (defensive) heads.

Yes some clubs did well, but to compare this crop with the best of the best, is just so overating it.

Mate you even fail at that, there are generally two ways of measuring the strength of a draft, how far the guns go early on, and it goes down to 7 (which is abnormally high) and how good the later picks are. Hill 61, Mackay 48, Reimers 47. If it's not a gun draft, it's pretty close. Infact most drafts these days are gun drafts because drafting is done so well. So yeah, it was a super draft. Anyway, they say that about every draft nearly but it is impressive that the past say five drafts have been very impressive.

And stop criticizing people rating something two seconds later as good two years later, great that you have hindsight, pity you can't realise how deep and how good this draft is. If some of the talls start to kick like Gumby and Leue (can't be bothered spelling his name, sorry lions fans) it will really be a great draft.

Sure, tigers failed, but, meh, that always happens. :(

If Grigg was fit, would have had 4 out of 5 in our 22 on the weekend.
Plus Jamison. ;)

HAMPSON.

Bruce is a bit queer...

Yet Hampson does look like he's been chiselled from a piece of oak.

It is a gun draft if you have five athletic rucks in Leuenberger, Renouf, Hampson, Tippet and Goldstein selected in the one year.

You called it the worst ever. Most people have come on here and said their club killed it. Once the KPs are fully developed, I am tipping the best 5 players from this draft will rank with any of the past - and there will be a lot of depth.

You are going to have to face it - you are very, very wrong.

It was said that this will be the best draft since 2001 - looks like that will be a correct call.

The blues did do well, but it was smart picks as well, a few midfielders, a ruckman, some talls, a good balance. The 06 rookie draft was pretty damn good too, Jacobs, Jamison, Harbrow, Clarke, Geary, Jones, Wellingham, McNamara, Macaffer, Campbell, do rookie drafts from other years go that well? Not sure but that's an impressive list.

So you title the thread '2006 - The Worst AFL draft ever' and you wonder why people take it the wrong way?

If you only meant to say that the 2006 draft wasn't a super draft then why on earth did you call it the worst draft ever?

Seems to me you are just back peddling or you are a troll.

Whatever you were trying to say, which seems to be that 2006 was over rated, is negated by the thread title. Obviously ridiculous. Plenty of guns in 2006 and miles from the worst draft ever.

Was it a superdraft? Probably hard to tell given that players are still developing.

Still reckon 2002 is the worst ever, worse even than 03.

Eagles did well to opt out of round 1 and trade pick 8 for Daniel Chick. Hawks picked up Luke Brennan, and delisted him after less than 20 games.

Leaving out the internal issues he may have caused at the club, there's no doubt Chick was an important part of the 06 premiership side

Interesting how Troy Selwood went at 19 and Adam at 53. We got the value there:thumbsu:

Thread Fail.

OP obviously a bit of a dim wit who doesn't understand that the development between talls and smalls is different. 2006 was considered a talls superdraft and hence we need to wait at least another 3 years before any definitive call can be made. As it is, plenty of the talls are already showing good signs.

Was reasonable in the end but got no where near the hype it had at the time.
