"Oh it's just too cold when I leave the MCC after dark and I don't trust the look of persons of African appearance at Richmond station. Day grand final stays!"

Pretty sure the Grand Final entertainment is hit and miss every year. Not sure the time of day changes that. The AFL are not going to move the GF to twilight and then sign up an 80s/90s Aussie act as the main entertainment.
They'll end up with something like The Proclaimers, Barry Gibb and Avril Lavigne
What has the NRL done previously that the AFL have copied? Seems a weird assumption on your behalf that the AFL will do that next year. They announced on Fox Sports news the other day that the NRL are considering a wildcard weekend where 7th-10th play off for the last two top 8 spots, so I can only assume the AFL will introduce that for next season.
Is there any business case to moving the GF to twilight? Friday night footy is popular but I didn't think Saturday night/Sunday twilight were huge ratings winners.
You were already informed of the arguments yet you played dumb asking "How?", I gave you the reasons (again). Your claim to know what every St Kilda supporter thinks and is willing to do is...well it speaks for itself.Hahahahaha. s**t, cancel the whole thing. I know for a fact that there isn’t one single St.Kilda supporter that would stay up a bit later to enjoy the celebrations of a premiership

The AFL have decided nothing. It won't happen this year, but the AFL are under intense pressure from Channel 7 to do as they are told. The decision can be stopped, as it was four years ago when Demetriou tried it. As long as the players and clubs oppose it as they did before and importantly the fans like ourselves make it known that we also oppose it; the alternative? Let them walk all over us!Shut the thread down. There's no point even debating it because we all know why this is in the media right now. Because the AFL have already decided that either from this year or next the GF will be twilight. And we all know once it moves we will never, ever have a day GF again.
Isn't the FA Cup final played at twilight? The AFL want the GF to be the Super Bowl. Most fans don't really GAF about the day outside of the footy aspect of it.
The fans want it to be more like the FA Cup, with a decent share of tickets going to the competing sides and a focus on the game.
The fa Cup is played 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Twilight in England at that time of year isn’t in 9 o’clockIsn't the FA Cup final played at twilight?
But it still used to be 'tradition' to start the game a couple of hours earlier? The fa Cup is played 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Twilight in England at that time of year isn’t in 9 o’clock
I’d say it’s always been at that time because the sun stays up until 9:30But it still used to be 'tradition' to start the game a couple of hours earlier?
No, it's it's it's just that we MUST changeReeks of cultural cringe.
Usa and Sydney have their dreadful sports grand final played at night therefore have to.copy them.
Christ AFL back yourself in and respect your games tradition
I was talking about a night Grand Final.3/3 twilight prelims (2012, 2014, 2017) at the MCG had no issues with dew at all. There are legitimate arguments against change, but based on actual evidence, conditions affecting the standard of play is not one of them.
FalseMost games for 25 weeks are twilight and night and you don't care... Fact.
Your reasons are stupid. ‘People from out of town’ will have to go to bed later..You were already informed of the arguments yet you played dumb asking "How?", I gave you the reasons (again). Your claim to know what every St Kilda supporter thinks and is willing to do is...well it speaks for itself.

Personally I think a few hours is all that's needed to change the crowd dynamic from 'some of the crowd showing up with a few drinks under their belt' to 'a lot of the crowd showing up half cut'. Let's face it GF day is a drinking competition for many. I'm no tee-totaller and I'm fine with having a bunch of beers at the footy, but I can just imagine the later stages of a close grand final, emotions running high, 100,000 ppl, you can't just move seats. I just don't think it's a great idea for families attending and getting home on public transport etc etc.
That is a weird assumption, that everyone is a winner. Have you ever been in Melbourne just after a GF, many people are crying and near suicidal. Out of town could be as close as Melton or as far as Shepparton, with the GF finishing at 6pm they can get home that evening. You sound like Marie Antoinette, when the peasants demand bread, "If they have no bread, let them eat cake", ie: some people cannot afford a hotel for the night in Melbourne at the best of times, let alone when prices sky rocket on GF night. The clubs already host GF celebration the next day, but it would be end of the evening club celebration, back to a bunch of hung-over players (in sunglasses) turning up at midday, trying to grin while holding back the chunder, waving to the crowd before rushing off to the loo for a spew. The real celebration is the night of the GF.Your reasons are stupid. ‘People from out of town’ will have to go to bed later..
how many people from out of town go to the grand final, of them, how many would make the effort and spend the money but then go home instead of celebrating a premiership? Melbourne has an abundance of these things called hotels.
The clubs could host grand final celebrations the next day, something they already do, if it’s too late.
Further more to that have you been in Melbourne on gf day? The place is buzzing and everyone is out very late.
I’m not sure how changing the start time by a few hours all of a sudden alienate all these out of towners you speak of.
Excuses are getting lame now.
Ok, I know what I’m dealing with now. That is a weird assumption, that everyone is a winner. Have you ever been in Melbourne just after a GF, many people are crying and near suicidal. I am astounded that you are so enthusiastic for changing the time when most others either oppose it or don't care. You work for Channel 7?
