I suppose we’ll see players tucking their heads in and charging at moving players now to draw free kicks. Obviously a new precedent has been set, despite the fact that ducking your head has always, for as long as I can remember, been considered fair game in a tackle.

Not when you're ducking to pick up a ball and there was no charging here. Without forward momentum from the Essendon player this free would not have been paid. With it, the free is very clear and should always be paid as the player going the ball in this situation is very vulnerable.

But heck me when it comes to freedom of expression, the amount of moralising, grandstanding virtue signalers getting their knickers in a knot over people doing what - booing. Snowflakes deserve to be mocked as pathetic. If you want to start policing speech (and no, racist comments deliberately trying to denigrate are not socially acceptable), I will never ever do anything other than oppose you and your bankrupt morals.

This is no different to crap with Goodes where boos were racist. By the same logic, people booed Pendelbury becasue he is white - which is utter crap as most, if not all boos were not directed at him.

As for the late free kick, it absolutely should not have been paid. He ducked and led with his head, and his opponent should not be penalised with that. Nor should the opponent of ANY player who leads with their head on a contest.

That said, who knows if he’s just got awkwardly in position or if he’s actually trying to milk a free. Who knows. It’s not on him, it’s on the umpire for paying a shit, incorrect free.

It’s not a free kick. He led with his head. It’s his own fault high contact was made.

It was shit form to boo Ablett and Sheed in our respective matches against them. Gaff I think is a bit of a different circumstance given the severity of his actions towards Brayshaw - there’s still a human element there but would concede that the world would be a much better place without it.

The closest parallel to it from a Collingwood perspective is our booing of Riewoldt at the 2010 Grand Final march. Again; that was very poor form.

This isn’t an Essendon-only issue, it’s pervasive to all supporter bases at all clubs. All the same, it was disappointing. The world would be a much nicer place without it.

Don't really understand the uproar about booing. The booing wasn't individualised for Scott Pendlebury. Would of been the same scenario if Callum Brown won the medal. The booing was directed at the umpires, and clearly fans were going to be salty losing by 4 points. So seeing Pendlebury win the medal fueled the crowd. But so ******* what? Can guarantee to you, if Essendon won, us Collingwood fans would be booing as well. This game is for the fans. We should be allowed to show emotion as long as it does not cross the line (e.g. racial remarks). Seriously can't believe how soft this game is becoming. What do the PC brigade want? We'll probably be forced to shake hands with opposition fans after games soon. In cricket, some of the bigger Indian players like Tendulkar/Dhoni have their houses stoned by fans after they lose a game. Here we are worrying about some noise being made in the crowd. I thought it all just adds to the theatre, as does cheering!

The sad thing is, this PC controversy hijacks the real beauty of today in paying respect to the Anzacs. Also shouldn't the main talking point be about the umpiring? Was atrocious today for both clubs. So many suspect decisions. The AFL tomorrow will send some corporate media clown and try and justify every single incorrect decision since they can never be wrong.

Anyway, was still a great day and a bloody ripping game. Good luck for the rest of the year.

I think the Pendlebury free is 50:50, its kind of there but if that was going to be paid then when Walla was slapped across the head in the second quarter should have been paid. On the umpiring, the Pies were unlucky with the goal review because that was close enough to be called a goal.

I rarely boo, but I'll own up and admit to doing it after the game today. Emotion certainly got the best of me and I went off for 2 minutes after the game. And then again when they started the collingwoooddd chant. On reflection I would have preferred to just have left the ground straight away.
