2019 ALL AUSTRALIAN TEAM

Locks at this stage:
- Grundy and Gawn both have to be in the team again. Lottery as to who is starting.
- Michael Walters and Gary Ablett on the flanks both averaging 20+disposals, 2goals.
- Jeremy Cameron at either FF or CH, leading the Coleman atm. Other key forward most likely Hawkins who is 2nd in Coleman plus Geelong are top.
- Jordan De Goey in one of the pockets. Kicked the 2nd most goals outside of key forwards (1st is Walters) and Collingwood sitting in 2nd.
- Tom Stewart and Shannon Hurn in defence. They are both having better seasons than last year and they made the squad then.
- Lachie Whitfield on the wing but it depends on how many games he plays. I think he needs roughly another 6 and he should be in.
- Travis Boak, Josh Kelly, Nat Fyfe on the ball who have been incredible so far. Also Tim Kelly leading the coaches votes and most Brownlow predictors will be in the team also, probably on the interchange

Spots up for grabs: That leaves 8 spots.
- 1 forward (pocket): Leading contender at the moment would be Charlie Cameron with what he is doing up in Brisbane. The other 2 possible players for this spot would be Tom Papley or Eddie Betts at the moment.

- 2 Key backs (FB and CHB): Alex Pearce going down for the season opens up one of these spots. I think Harris Andrews is in a great position to get into the team. McGovern has to be in the conversation as well as Hurley the way Essendon's defence is going at the moment. Then you have guys like Phil Davis or Robbie Tarrant who get the job done each week and definitely have a good case.

- 2 backs (pockets): For the last 2 spots there is a few guys that come to mind. Daniel Rich is definitely worth a look along with Brad Sheppard. Then you have Houli who is getting a lot of the footy, same goes for Jake Lloyd. Sicily also have a solid year but needs to be playing backline for the rest of the season.

- 1 wingman: I think the 2 guys vying for this spot are Ricky Henderson and Mitch Duncan who are having sensational seasons so far. Possibly Gaff could be in the mix also.

- 2 interchange spots: Most likely will go to midfielders. There are quite a few in the running. I think Dangerfield is one of the favourites here along with Patrick Cripps. However there is Tim Taranto and Stephen Coniglio from GWS who are having serious seasons. But then there is also Lachie Neale and Adam Treloar who will poll well in the Bronwlow. Others in the conversation would be Bontempelli, Elliot Yeo and possibly Pendlebury, Oliver and Merrett.
Rory Laird or hayden Crozier or Caleb Daniel instead of Sheppard
Sheppard is currently the best lockdown defender in the comp, plays tall or small and provides solid rebound.

Dylan Grimes says hello. Also doesn't have anywhere near the coverage Sheppard has with McGovern, Hurn, and Barass when he plays. Old Grimy has been the #1 defender with Rance and Astbury out for all and chunks of the year, respectively.

UPDATED:

B: Stewart, Blicavs, Ryan
HB: Keath, Andrews, Hurn (C)
C: T. Kelly, Cripps, Boak
FO: Grundy, Cunnington, Fyfe
HF: Walters, Hawkins, Ablett
F: C. Cameron, J. Cameron, Danger
INT: Coniglio, Neale, Bont, Gawn

On the cusp: Shuey, Duncan, Henderson, Sheppard, Tarrant, Grimes, Treloar, De Goey, Whitfield, J. Kelly, Saad, Daniel, Rich, Rampe

Whitfield should be back this week, and he should automatically be back in AA. He is far and away the best player in his position, and it’s not even close

Ppl don't realise how remarkable these stats are for McGovern given all opposition teams use a "just don't kick it anywhere near McGovern" strategy.
And how many other defenders have had offensive 'taggers' put on them in games!

And he still manages to get his vice-like hands on it regardless.
haven't watched a huge amount of eagles games, but him not being there was a big advantage for the hawks, and on the other side, buddy did give him a lesson this year.

If Jarman Impey continues his form, would surely in consideration at least for the squad. Been massive for us this year.

Mostly used as a defender but has been swung forward for a half here or a quarter there.

averaging 17 disposals at 81%, 11 kicks, 6 contested possessions, 6.4 intercepts, 0.5 goals 3.3 Score involvements, 5.2 marks(0.7 contested) 2 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s 288 Metres gained.

Yes of course if we plays a lot forward it's hard to justify a defenders position in the AA, but he's genuinely a defender for 90% of the time.

Blicavs is full back of the year??
Andrews CHB of the year??

I've seen quite a few Dogs and Eagles games this year, I'd have Daniel ahead of Sheppard, and I'm a Sheppard fan.
Yeah Daniel is good but Shepard can play on opponents much taller than him and also play on stars like Eddie Betts, Robbie Gray. On the flip side Sheppard has the luxury of Hurn, Barras and McGovern so he does get help. Tough call

Rory Laird or hayden Crozier or Caleb Daniel instead of Sheppard

Laird nowhere near it. Good stats but his defensive work his been ordinary at times this year. Also his rebounding work hasn't been nearly as potent as it has in the last three years.

Much improved season.

Not even close to AA selection.

Quite funny when someone attempts to make a smarta**ed remark when they clearly don't know what they're talking about.
To be fair, if actually watching opposition players was a pre-requisite before posting, this thread would be about 4 pages long. The stats don't lie, Ben Reid kicked 3 goals last time the Eagles played the Swans. Case closed.
